The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 8-night journey through Uzbekistan— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What makes this Khiva honeymoon route different
This route gives Khiva real time: two nights inside Itchan Kala, instead of a rushed day stop. Samarkand gets a slow early morning at Bibi-Khanym Mosque, and Bukhara is kept as the easy, walkable middle chapter.
Between cities you take the Afrosiyob high-speed train, then reach Khiva by sleeper train or a flight via Urgench. Private cars handle airport and station transfers, so you never carry bags through a platform crowd. The pace is built for two people, not a coach party.
Why couples choose this Uzbekistan holiday
Couples choose this Uzbekistan holiday for the evenings, the privacy of the walled city and a pace with no rushed days. Three things in particular suit two people travelling together.
- Khiva after the day visitors leave. The lanes of Itchan Kala go quiet by late afternoon. You eat on a rooftop and walk back to a room inside the walls.
- Compact Samarkand. The Registan, Gur-e-Amir, Shah-i-Zinda and Bibi-Khanym Mosque sit close together, so days stay short and unhurried.
- Easy Bukhara. The Poi-Kalyan complex, the Ark citadel and the old hammams are near each other, which leaves afternoons free.
Moments to plan around
Four moments are worth planning your days around, and each has a best day on this route.
- First light at Bibi-Khanym Mosque (Day 3). Go before the tour groups arrive and walk to Siab Bazaar afterwards for tea.
- Registan at dusk (Day 2). Arrive in Samarkand by train and see the three madrasas as the light drops.
- Hammam for two in Bukhara (Day 5). Allow about two hours in a historic bathhouse, then keep the evening empty.
- Private rooftop dinner in Khiva (Day 7). Book it in advance. The minarets are lit and the walls are nearly empty.
Romantic highlights of this route
These are the named experiences that carry the romance on this trip.
- Rooftop dinner on the first night in Khiva, after the day visitors have left.
- Private rooftop dinner for two on Day 7, arranged ahead with a set menu.
- Early visit to Bibi-Khanym Mosque on Day 3, before the buses arrive.
- Registan walk on the evening of Day 2 as the facades light up.
- Hammam session for two at a historic bathhouse in Bukhara.
- A late walk along the lanes of Itchan Kala with almost nobody around.
How the days flow
The trip keeps one main sightseeing block per day and leaves the rest open. Mornings start late on the travel days, and most evenings are free after dinner.
Train days are short: Tashkent to Samarkand and Samarkand to Bukhara each take under about two hours by Afrosiyob. Day 6 is the longest transfer, Bukhara to Khiva, by sleeper train or a flight via Urgench. Day 8 is slow: a late checkout in Khiva before the flight to Tashkent.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the setting of the room matters more than the star rating. In Khiva, a room inside the walls means you walk home after dinner. In Samarkand, a hotel near the Registan saves taxi rides. In Bukhara, an old-town courtyard hotel keeps the Poi-Kalyan complex and Lyabi-Hauz on foot.
Ask for a quiet room away from the street, a courtyard or terrace if available, and a double bed instead of two singles. Room types are confirmed at booking and vary by hotel.
Best months for a couple's trip to Uzbekistan
April, May, September and October are the best months for a couple's trip. According to climate data compiled for the region, April runs 9-22 C, May 13-27 C, September 12-28 C and October 7-21 C, with medium crowds and prices.
June to August is hot: July reaches about 36 C, and heatwaves can pass 40 C in lowland areas. December to February is cold, from about -3 to 8 C, with occasional snow. For Khiva's rooftops, late April or late September is the sweet spot.
| Season | Typical temperature | What it means for a couple |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (March-May) | About 4 to 27 C | Comfortable for walking; May is busier and costlier |
| Summer (June-August) | About 17 to 36 C | Very hot and dry; sightseeing best in early morning |
| Autumn (September-November) | About 3 to 28 C | Warm in September, cooler by October and November |
| Winter (December-February) | About -3 to 8 C | Cold, low prices, few crowds, occasional snow |
Add-ons worth considering
A few add-ons suit honeymooners, and each fits a particular day. All are priced separately and confirmed at booking.
- Private photographer, Day 7 in Khiva. Late afternoon light on the Itchan Kala walls is the best slot.
- Extra private dinner, Day 3 in Samarkand. A table with a view of the lit Registan after the monument day.
- Second hammam or couple's massage, Day 5 in Bukhara. Fits the free afternoon after the Ark.
- Private Samarkand-Bukhara car transfer. A road alternative to the train if you want stops on the way.
Where you stay in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva
You stay in standard 3-4 star hotels in all four cities, chosen for location rather than size. Indicative per-person tiers, derived from the listed price and shown only for context: budget 3-star at about Rs.76,500, standard 4-star at Rs.1,02,000 (this package) and premium 5-star at about Rs.1,63,000.
- Tashkent: a standard city hotel for the arrival night and the final night, close to the airport transfer route.
- Samarkand: a hotel near the Registan, so the main monuments are a short walk.
- Bukhara: a boutique-style hotel in the old town, close to Poi-Kalyan and the Ark.
- Khiva: a hotel inside Itchan Kala, which is the main reason this route works for couples.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Uzbekistan
Indian passport holders need a visa for Uzbekistan, usually applied for through the official e-visa portal. Check the official portal for the current fee and processing time, as rules change. Carry a passport valid for at least six months.
The local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS); we do not quote an exchange rate, so check the rate before you travel. Cards work more widely in Tashkent than in Khiva, so carry some cash for bazaars. Flights from major Indian cities to Tashkent are generally a few hours; confirm routing, duration and fares with us at booking, as they vary by city and season.
What this trip costs and what moves the price
The listed price is Rs.1,02,000 per person, land only, on twin sharing, with flights excluded. A couple therefore pays roughly double before airfare, and the final figure is confirmed at booking.
Cost moves with hotel category, the number of private transfers, the season and any add-ons. Local trains are modest in price: as of 2026, published figures for Afrosiyob are about $10-20 for Tashkent-Samarkand and $8-15 for Samarkand-Bukhara, and a Bukhara-Khiva sleeper is about 130,000-250,000 UZS. Book train seats early, as popular departures sell out.
Uzbekistan travel tips for couples from India
- Fix your dates early and book Afrosiyob seats as soon as the plan is confirmed.
- Carry some Uzbek som in cash for bazaars and small cafes.
- Vegetarian travellers should tell hotels and guides to exclude meat and meat fat, since meat is the default in many dishes.
- Pack layers: spring and autumn mornings can be much cooler than midday.
- Use Yandex Go for local taxi rides, typically about $2-8 per city trip.

FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
