Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Uzbekistan family holiday include?
This Uzbekistan holiday covers the classic Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara circuit and adds two nights in the Zaamin area of the Jizzakh region. Zaamin National Park offers mountain scenery, trekking and eco-tourism, with rare wildlife such as lynx and golden eagles.
Zaamin gives the family a break from monument-heavy days: mountain air, short walks, and a visit to Imam-Ota tourism village, which has a suspension bridge and amusement facilities. Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum in Samarkand is the other anchor sight, visited on a morning slot so the heat stays manageable.
Hotels are standard 3-4 star, chosen for family rooms and a walkable position near the main sights. The Afrosiyob high-speed train links Tashkent with Samarkand and Samarkand with Bukhara. Samarkand and Bukhara are under two hours apart by fast train, so the longest rail leg stays easy on children. Bukhara to Zaamin and Zaamin to Tashkent are done by private car with rest stops.
How the plan is paced, day by day
The plan is built around three rules: no repacking every night, light afternoons, and one free half-day every few days. Each city gets two nights or more, so nobody lives out of a suitcase.
| Stage | Nights | Transfer type | What the family does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tashkent (arrival) | 2 | Airport pickup by private car | Rest, Chorsu Bazaar, metro stations |
| Samarkand | 2 | Afrosiyob high-speed train | Registan, Gur-e-Amir, Shah-i-Zinda, Bibi-Khanym |
| Bukhara | 2 | Afrosiyob high-speed train | Poi-Kalyan Complex, Ark, markets |
| Zaamin | 2 | Private car with rest stops | National park walk, Imam-Ota village |
| Tashkent (departure) | 1 | Private car with lunch stop | Farewell dinner, airport drop on Day 10 |
Only the Bukhara to Zaamin day involves a long road stretch. Everything else is a short hop by train or car, and the itinerary below marks the rest and snack stops.
Why does this route work for children and grandparents?
This route works because it keeps walking short, transfers predictable and meals familiar. Seniors get lift-equipped hotels and seated rail legs, while children get open-air time and a few activities that are not monuments.
Food is manageable for Indian families. Plov, lagman, shashlik and samsa are the staples, and vegetarian travellers can rely on salads such as achichuk, bread, dairy and Khivan dill noodles. Tell restaurants in advance to exclude meat and meat fat, since meat is the default in most dishes.
Kid and elder logistics on the road
Families travel in one private vehicle on road days, with seats allotted so grandparents sit nearest the door and children close to a parent. On Afrosiyob legs, seats are booked together in the same coach, and your tour manager confirms the coach layout at booking.
- Strollers and wheelchairs: Old-town lanes in Samarkand and Bukhara have uneven paving, so a light foldable stroller works better than a large one. Wheelchair access at heritage sites varies, so confirm needs at booking.
- Snack and rest stops: The Bukhara to Zaamin drive includes a mid-morning tea stop and a lunch break. Carry fruit, biscuits and water in the vehicle.
- Room setup: Family rooms or two connecting rooms, subject to availability at each hotel and confirmed at booking.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets at least one stop built around its pace and interests, and everyone shares the same days.
Younger children
- Tashkent metro stations, short and easy to enjoy
- Open space and a suspension bridge at Imam-Ota tourism village
- Amusement facilities at Imam-Ota
- Train rides on the Afrosiyob
Teenagers
- The Registan square, good for photos and history
- Shah-i-Zinda's tiled corridor
- Haggling at Bukhara's markets
- Short trail walks at Zaamin National Park
Grandparents
- Guided, seated-friendly heritage visits at Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum and Bibi-Khanym Mosque
- Short train legs instead of long road drives between the big cities
- Free afternoons for rest at the hotel
- Early dinners and quiet evenings
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
Mornings start after a proper breakfast, sightseeing finishes by early afternoon, and the family rests before an early dinner. Children get a nap or quiet window after lunch, and nothing is scheduled between about 2 pm and 4 pm on city days.
The longest drive is Bukhara to Zaamin on Day 7, broken with a tea stop and a lunch break. The Day 9 drive back to Tashkent follows the same pattern. Rail and short transfers fill the rest of the plan. Keep the first afternoon in Tashkent free of plans, since flight fatigue hits children and elders hardest.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Rooms are standard 3-4 star, with family rooms or connecting rooms offered where hotels have them. Bed-sharing for children and extra-bed rules differ by property, so confirm both at booking.
Breakfast is included daily, and lunch or dinner slots are marked B, L or D in each day. Plain rice, bread, boiled eggs, dairy, soup and fresh fruit are easy options for fussy eaters. Vegetarian and Jain-style meals can be requested ahead, with the no-meat-fat instruction repeated at each restaurant.
Tips for travelling with kids and elders
- Health: Carry prescription medicines in original packs, plus basic remedies for fever, cold and stomach upsets. Add travel insurance that covers seniors.
- Weather gear: Pack hats, sunscreen and a refillable bottle for May to September. For November to March, add thermals and a warm jacket, especially for Zaamin evenings.
- ID and age proof: Carry passports for every traveller, children included, plus birth certificates for kids as supporting proof of age and relationship.
- Train seats: Book Afrosiyob seats early; the main city circuit sells out in peak months.
- Local transport: Yandex Go handles taxi rides in the cities, which saves negotiating fares with children in tow.
Where you will stay in Tashkent, Samarkand, Bukhara and Zaamin
Stays are standard 3-4 star hotels in each city and a mountain guesthouse or resort near Zaamin. Samarkand's hotel sits close to the Registan, Gur-e-Amir, Shah-i-Zinda and Bibi-Khanym. In Bukhara, the old-town location keeps the Kalon complex and the Ark within walking distance. Specific properties are confirmed at booking, within the category shown.
| Tier | Indicative price per person (land only, twin sharing) | Stay style |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | approx Rs.77,500 | Simple, clean hotels with basic family rooms |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.1,03,000 | Comfortable hotels, lifts and family-room options |
| Premium 5-star | approx Rs.1,65,000 | Larger rooms, more facilities, central locations |
These tiers are indicative. The final price shifts with season, room type and the number of children sharing a room.
Visa, money and flights for Indian travellers to Uzbekistan
Indian passport holders need to check the current entry rules on Uzbekistan's official government portals before booking, since visa type and the application route can change. Check the official portal for the current fee and processing time, and carry a passport valid for at least six months from arrival. The local currency is the Uzbek som (UZS). Cards work in larger hotels and restaurants, but carry some cash for bazaars, small cafes and tips. Flights from major Indian cities to Tashkent are usually direct or with one stop; check airline schedules for duration, as fares and carriers are not covered in this package. As of 2026, Tashkent public transport fares are charged by card or cash on buses and the metro.
Cost of a Uzbekistan trip and what moves the price
The land-only starting price is Rs.1,03,000 per person on twin sharing, with flights excluded. Season, hotel category, room sharing and child age all change the final figure. Travel in May to August typically costs more than November to February, since crowds and prices are higher in the warmer months. Confirm the exact figure at booking.
Best time to visit Uzbekistan from India
April, May, September and October suit this itinerary best. April runs about 9 to 22 degrees Celsius, while September stays warm at roughly 12 to 28 degrees Celsius, both with limited rain.
June to August is very hot, with daytime highs commonly between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, which is hard on young children and elders. December to February is cold, with temperatures from about -5 to 8 degrees Celsius and occasional snow, so Zaamin needs proper winter gear.

FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
