The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 6-night journey through Nepal— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
Why this Nepal honeymoon route stays slow
This route gives a couple three nights on Phewa Lake in Pokhara and one night at Nagarkot for a single sunrise. It avoids adding Chitwan or a trek, so there is time to rest between sights.
The loop runs Kathmandu, Pokhara, Nagarkot and back to Kathmandu. Road transfers are private, so you can ask the driver to stop for tea or a viewpoint. Two evenings are left free for dinner on your own. Because Kathmandu, Pokhara and Chitwan are usually combined over 10 to 12 days, this trip deliberately drops Chitwan and keeps the days light.
Moments to plan around
Four moments are worth fixing in your head before you travel, and each has a best day on this route.
- First lake evening, Day 1: after the drive from Kathmandu, a short walk to Phewa Lake at dusk is enough. Keep dinner simple.
- Sarangkot sunrise, Day 3: an early drive up to the viewpoint for first light on the Annapurna range, if the sky is clear.
- Boat ride on Phewa Lake, Day 2 afternoon: a private rowing boat to the Tal Barahi temple island, with sunset on the walk back along Lakeside.
- Nagarkot sunrise, Day 5: the cold, quiet dawn from the hotel terrace or the nearby viewpoint, followed by a late breakfast.
Why this suits couples
Privacy, setting and pace are the three reasons this route works for two people rather than a group.
- Privacy: transfers are private cars, not shared coaches, so you control the stops and the timing.
- Setting: Pokhara Lakeside is walkable and lakeside, and Nagarkot is a quiet hill stay where the main activity is looking at the mountains.
- Pace: only Day 4 is a long travel day. Most other days have one main outing and a free evening.
Romantic highlights on this route
These are the named experiences that carry the trip, each with the detail that makes it work for a couple.
- Phewa Lake boat ride: a private boat for two on Day 2, ideally in the softer afternoon light.
- Tal Barahi temple island: a short stop in the middle of the lake, reached only by boat.
- Sarangkot first light: a pre-dawn drive from Pokhara for a wide view of the Himalayan ridgeline.
- Lakeside sunset walk: an easy evening stroll on the promenade, with dinner at a lakefront restaurant of your choice.
- Nagarkot dawn: a cold, still sunrise over the range, best with a warm layer and a flask of tea.
- Bhaktapur lanes: a slow afternoon through the pottery and temple lanes of Bhaktapur on the way back to Kathmandu.
How the days flow
The days are paced with late starts, one main outing and free evenings, apart from two early mornings for sunrise. Everything else is flexible.
Day 1 is mostly the road to Pokhara. Day 2 has no fixed start. Day 3 begins before dawn at Sarangkot and ends with free time. Day 4 is the longest transfer. Day 5 starts early for the Nagarkot sunrise, then eases into Bhaktapur and Kathmandu. Day 6 is a guided Kathmandu day with a free evening, and Day 7 is departure. If the weather clears or closes in, the sunrise slots can swap with a free morning.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the room setting matters more than the star rating: a lake or mountain view, a quiet position and an easy walk to the water.
- Pokhara: a Lakeside hotel within walking distance of Phewa Lake keeps evenings simple. A lake-view room is worth asking for at booking.
- Nagarkot: a hill hotel with a terrace or valley-facing room lets you watch sunrise without leaving the property.
- Kathmandu: a central hotel keeps you close to Pashupatinath, Boudhanath and the old lanes, with a short airport transfer on the last day.
Best months for a couple's trip to Nepal
October and November are the best months for a couple's trip, with clear skies and open mountain views, though they are also high-demand and peak-price months. March and April are the second window.
| Season | Months | What it means for a couple |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn | September to November | Generally dry with clearer skies; October and November are peak demand and peak prices |
| Winter | December to February | Cold, especially at Nagarkot at dawn; crowds are low |
| Spring | March to May | Dry to mild with rhododendron bloom; March and April are busy |
| Monsoon | June to August | Wet and cloudy with muddy trails; low clouds can delay flights |
If you travel in the monsoon, keep a buffer day and do not rely on sunrise views. Confirm the current season pricing at booking.
Add-ons worth considering
Add-ons are best chosen for one or two evenings or mornings so they do not crowd the free time. All are optional and quoted separately.
- Private dinner or room decoration: fits the Pokhara evening on Day 2 or the free evening in Kathmandu on Day 6.
- Spa session: a good use of the free evening on Day 6, after a day of heritage sightseeing.
- Couple photographer: works best at Sarangkot or Nagarkot at first light, or on the lakefront at sunset.
- Paragliding or a mountain flight: both are listed among Nepal's popular tourist activities, and both depend on weather. Confirm availability and cost at booking.
Where you stay in Pokhara, Nagarkot and Kathmandu
Standard 3-4 star hotels are the default on this route, with room type and view as the main variables. The indicative prices below are per person and are for context only.
- Budget 3-star, approx Rs.20,500: simple, clean rooms, usually a little further from the lake or the viewpoint.
- Standard 4-star, Rs.27,500 (default): comfortable rooms in good locations, with Lakeside access in Pokhara and a hill hotel in Nagarkot.
- Premium 5-star, approx Rs.44,000: larger rooms, better views and more on-site facilities. Availability at Nagarkot is limited, so confirm at booking.

Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Nepal
Indian passport holders can check the current entry rules on the official portal; see our Nepal visa for Indians guide for the route to follow, and confirm any fee there before you travel. The local currency is the Nepali rupee. In July 2026 Nepal Rastra Bank lifted its ban on Indian INR 200 and INR 500 notes, which Indian and Nepali nationals can carry up to INR 25,000 per person in total, subject to the stated conditions. A direct flight from Delhi to Kathmandu takes about 1 hour 45 minutes as of October 2026. Fares and airlines vary, so check them when you book.
Plan your flights around the Kathmandu arrival, since the first road leg to Pokhara begins that day. Other holiday options are listed on our Nepal tour packages page.

FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
