Journey notes
Why this route works
What a Laos honeymoon route looks like
This route keeps Luang Prabang as the base for four nights, then adds two nights in Vientiane. The Laos–China Railway handles the long transfer between the two, so you avoid a day on winding roads.
Most Laos itineraries try to fit three towns into a week. Here the pace is slower on purpose: one morning on a hill, one day at a waterfall, one fully open day, and evenings by the river. For couples travelling from India, it also means fewer hotel changes and less repacking.
Mount Phou Si and Wat Xieng Thong: why these two anchor the trip
Mount Phou Si and Wat Xieng Thong are both listed among Luang Prabang's main visitor sites, and both sit in the old town, so you can reach each on foot or a short tuk-tuk ride.
Phou Si is the hill in the middle of the old town. The climb is a set of steps, best done early or an hour before sunset, and the top gives a wide view over the town and the rivers on either side. Wat Xieng Thong is a historic Buddhist temple at the northern end of the peninsula. Morning light is softer there and the courtyards are quieter before tour groups arrive.
We schedule Phou Si on Day 2 and keep the evening free, so you can choose between sunrise and sunset depending on the weather.
Why this suits couples
This route suits couples because it is built around walkable places, low crowds in the cool season and long stretches without a fixed plan. Nothing on the itinerary needs an alarm before 7 am except the train day.
- Privacy: Luang Prabang is a small UNESCO World Heritage town. Lanes are quiet after the night market closes, and evenings by the river need no booking.
- Setting: Temples, hill views and a waterfall day give you variety without long drives. You are never more than a short ride from your hotel.
- Pace: One full free day and two unscheduled afternoons are built in. Laos is landlocked, so if you want a beach, this is not the right trip.
Romantic highlights on this route
The highlights are small, specific moments rather than big attractions. Each one below is placed on a day where it fits the schedule.
- Mount Phou Si at first light or dusk: a step climb in the old town with views over the Mekong and the Nam Khan.
- Wat Xieng Thong courtyard walk: an unhurried visit to one of Luang Prabang's best-known temples, ideally before 10 am.
- Kuang Si Falls half-day: a drive of about 45 minutes from town, with time at the lower pools and the forest path.
- Mekong boat cruise at sunset: boat cruises are available in Luang Prabang; the booking is confirmed at the time of reservation.
- Rail transfer to Vientiane: a daytime train ride on the Laos–China Railway, which links Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng and Vientiane.
- Vientiane riverfront dinner: an evening on the Mekong riverfront after a day at That Luang and Patuxay.
Moments to plan around
A few moments on this trip are worth protecting in your schedule. We place them on the days where timing works best.
- First morning on Phou Si (Day 2): go early, before the heat builds and before the viewpoint fills up.
- Sunset on the Mekong (Day 2 or Day 4): Day 4 is the safer choice because nothing else is booked.
- A private dinner (Day 4): the open day leaves your evening clear for a pre-booked table or room arrangement.
- Farewell sunset in Vientiane (Day 6): the riverfront is a short ride from the central hotels.
How the days flow
The days follow a simple pattern: one main outing, a long lunch, then free time. Day 1 and Day 7 are travel days, and Day 5 is a rail day, so those three carry the least sightseeing.
Days 2 and 3 are the active ones, with a morning start for the hill and temple, then a waterfall trip. Day 4 has no fixed plan at all. In Vientiane, Day 6 is a single city circuit that wraps up by late afternoon so you can reach the riverfront before sunset.
Choosing the right stay style
For a couple, the room and its setting matter more than the star rating. Ask for a quiet room away from the street, a private balcony or a river or garden view, and a location within walking distance of the old town.
In Luang Prabang, a boutique stay inside the old town keeps Phou Si, Wat Xieng Thong and the night market within a short walk. In Vientiane, a central hotel near the Mekong riverfront saves transfer time on your last evening. We do not name properties here. Final hotel names are shared at booking.
Best months for a couple's trip
November to February is the best window for this route, with clearer skies, lower humidity and limited rain. As of 2026, January and February are medium-priced, while November and December are peak months, so book early for those.
| Months | Season | Typical temperature | What it means for couples |
|---|---|---|---|
| November–February | Cool dry | 14–31°C | Best all-round window; carry a light layer for cool evenings |
| March–May | Hot dry | 18–34°C | Very hot afternoons; keep sightseeing to mornings |
| June–October | Wet monsoon | 21–32°C | Lower prices and greener views; rain can disrupt roads and outdoor plans |
If you travel from May to October, keep the day order flexible. Rainfall peaks in August and September.
Add-ons worth considering
Add-ons are optional and priced separately. Each one below fits a specific day, and all are confirmed at booking.
- Mekong sunset cruise: best on Day 4 in Luang Prabang, when the evening is open.
- Spa session for two: best on Day 4, after the waterfall day.
- Private dinner or room decoration: best on Day 4 or Day 6, depending on your occasion.
- Couple photographer: best at Mount Phou Si or Wat Xieng Thong in soft morning light on Day 2.

Visa, currency and flights for Laos from India
Indian passport holders need a visa to enter Laos. Check the official Lao e-visa portal for the current type, fee and processing time before you apply. Laos recently introduced a digital arrival and departure card at four international checkpoints, so confirm whether yours applies.
The local currency is the Lao kip. We do not quote an exchange rate here, as it changes often. Flights from major Indian cities usually involve one connection, and total travel time varies by route. Fares are not part of this package. Entry into Laos for Indian travellers should be re-checked against official sources close to your travel date.
What this trip costs and what moves the price
The listed price is Rs.82,000 per person, twin sharing, land only. For two travellers, double that per-person figure before flights. It covers 6 nights in standard 3-4 star stays, daily breakfast, the rail transfer and the listed sightseeing.
Price moves with travel month, hotel tier and add-ons. November to December is peak pricing. Upgrading hotels or adding a private dinner raises the total, so confirm current prices at booking.
Laos travel tips for Indian couples

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
