Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Hampi solo tour package?
A Hampi solo tour package is a domestic holiday plan for one traveller that bundles stays, transfers and guided monument visits while leaving open days. This one runs 4N/5D at Rs.14,500 per person, land only, on twin sharing, with standard 3-4 star stays.
Hampi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Karnataka, linked to the capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. The ruins are spread over a wide landscape south of the Tungabhadra River, so the route is planned to cut backtracking.
Key experiences on the Hampi solo route
Six stops carry this trip, each chosen because it works well for one person moving at their own speed.
- Hemakuta Hill: a short climb from Hampi Bazaar past small early temples, with the ruins and river laid out below.
- Matanga Hill sunrise: a 20-30 minute climb over uneven granite, started before first light.
- Vitthala Temple Complex: the Stone Chariot and the musical pillars, reached on foot along the riverbank from Hampi Bazaar.
- Virupaksha Temple: an active Shiva temple and a central landmark of Hampi.
- Tungabhadra coracle crossing: a short ride at one of the three designated crossing points near the main temples.
- Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary: a guided naturalist tour through rocky hills, forest and grassland near Hampi.
Day-by-day plan at a glance
The five days alternate guided monument mornings with open afternoons, so you are never locked into a fixed schedule all day.
| Day | Main activity | Style |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arrival, check-in, Hampi Bazaar evening walk | Light, self-paced |
| Day 2 | Virupaksha Temple, Hemakuta Hill, Archaeological Museum | Guided morning |
| Day 3 | Matanga Hill sunrise, riverbank walk, cycling | Early start, free evening |
| Day 4 | Vitthala Temple, coracle crossing, Daroji tour | Guided |
| Day 5 | Checkout and transfer | Departure |
Inclusions and exclusions at a glance
The package covers four nights of stay, daily breakfast, listed transfers and guided monument days. Monument tickets, most lunches and dinners, Daroji safari charges, bicycle hire and personal expenses are paid separately.
The full lists of what is and is not included sit in the sections beside the itinerary. Anything not yet fixed, such as the Daroji tour, is marked to be confirmed at booking.
Travelling alone in Hampi
Hampi is manageable for solo travellers, including women, if you keep to daylight on the ruins and fix your return transport before dusk. The monument zone is spread out, so a little planning goes a long way.
- Tell your hotel desk your day plan, especially for sunrise climbs before first light.
- Stay in or near Hampi Bazaar, where cafes and other travellers are close by.
- Use the guided monument days to meet people, and keep afternoons flexible.
- Book Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary and coracle timings in advance, as river levels affect crossings.
- Carry water, a torch for pre-dawn climbs and a litter bag to take waste out.
What this package covers
The package covers stays, breakfast, transfers and guided visits so the fixed costs are settled before you arrive. It is best suited to solo travellers on a moderate budget who want structure on monument days and freedom on others.
It works for first-time solo visitors, history and architecture enthusiasts, and anyone who wants a Matanga Hill sunrise without arranging a guide alone. It is a standard-category plan, not a luxury one.
What is not included
Costs paid locally or separately are monument entry tickets, most lunches and dinners, Daroji safari charges, bicycle hire and extra auto-rickshaw trips. Personal expenses, tips and travel insurance are also yours.
According to Karnataka Tourism, the Vijaya Vittala Temple fee is around Rs.40 for Indian visitors, subject to change. The Archaeological Museum ticket is also Rs.40 for Indian visitors in the 2026 guide. Confirm both at booking.
How the days are organised
The route stays inside the Hampi heritage zone and uses the riverbank, so you lose little time to transfers. Mornings go to the big monuments, when light is softer and the heat is lower, and afternoons are kept lighter.
Hampi Bazaar to the Vitthala complex is a riverbank walk, and flatter routes between monument clusters suit bicycles. Grouping Virupaksha with Hemakuta Hill on one day, and Vitthala with the coracle crossing on another, saves repeat trips across the site.
Ways to save or stretch the trip
A few choices change the final spend without changing the route.
- Travel in October or April, when hotel prices are medium rather than peak.
- Share a room on twin sharing to avoid the single supplement.
- Hire a bicycle at Rs.50-100 a day instead of taking autos for every hop.
- Eat at vegetarian thali places in Hampi Bazaar, where South Indian thali is widely available.
- Add a night if you want a slower pace; a 5N stay allows a deeper visit.
The Hampi trip cost also moves with season, so peak months cost more. Auto-rickshaws cost about Rs.80-150 for short trips in the main ruins area and Rs.200-300 to the north bank. A coracle ride is Rs.50-100 per person.
Who should pick something else
This plan is not ideal for travellers who want a compact destination, because Hampi's ruins are spread over a wide area and need real walking and climbing time.
It also does not suit those wanting a luxury or resort stay, travellers who cannot manage uneven granite on the Matanga Hill climb, or anyone who wants non-vegetarian food and alcohol in Hampi Village, where the cited guide says both are prohibited. If you want a group departure or a longer route, compare the wider Hampi tour packages.
Where you stay in Hampi
You stay in or close to Hampi Bazaar, the area adjacent to Virupaksha Temple and the major ruins. It is walkable, social and budget-friendly, which suits a solo traveller.
Indicative price tiers per person, derived from the listed price, are shown below. Hotel names are not fixed here; the category is described instead.
| Stay category | Indicative price per person | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | About Rs.11,000 | Simple rooms, central location |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.14,500 | Comfortable rooms, breakfast, close to the ruins |
| Premium 5-star | About Rs.23,000 | Larger rooms, upscale heritage-style property |
Kamalapur has upscale heritage properties, Hospet has mid-range hotels, and Anegundi is quieter with a more local feel.
Getting to Hampi: access and logistics
Hospet Junction is the nearest railway station, about 12 km from Hampi, served by local buses and auto-rickshaws. Jindal Vijayanagar Airport is about 38 km away with daily flights to Bengaluru and Hyderabad.
By road, Bengaluru to Hampi is about 340 km and takes around 6-7 hours, and Hubballi Airport is roughly 150 km away. Delhi to Hospet by train takes about 24-30 hours. Mobile connectivity around the ruins can be patchy, so confirm signal and download offline maps. No special permit is cited, but monument tickets apply; confirm all access details at booking.
When is the best time to visit Hampi?
November to February is the best window for this trip, with dry days, cooler mornings and manageable heat on the granite. December and January are busiest and priciest, so book stays early.
March to May runs about 35-42°C, so start early and rest at midday. June to September brings moderate to heavy rain, muddy monument areas, and river crossings can be restricted when the Tungabhadra is high. October and April are shoulder months with medium crowds and medium prices.

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
