Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Hampi holiday cover?
This trip covers six days across two heritage clusters in Karnataka: the Vijayanagara ruins along the Tungabhadra River and the Badami cave temples to the northwest. Mornings go to monuments, afternoons to museums, bazaars or drives, and evenings to viewpoints and temple visits.
Guides are arranged locally, and each day has a fixed anchor: Virupaksha Temple, Vitthala, Hemakuta Hill, Matanga Hill and a full day at Badami. Travellers from across India join this route as a couple trip, with twin-sharing rooms and a private car throughout.
Why choose this route over a shorter Hampi trip?
This route gives Hemakuta Hill a full morning and adds Badami, so you see two different heritage systems in one trip. Most short Hampi itineraries stop at Virupaksha and Vitthala and never reach the early shrines on the hill.
The Badami caves are rock-cut temples in sandstone cliffs, a different building tradition from the free-standing granite ruins of Hampi. Seeing both on one trip makes the contrast clear. It also spaces the walking, since Day 5 is a drive-and-guided-visit day, not a monument-hopping day.

When is the best time to visit Hampi?
November to February is the best time to visit Hampi for walking, with cooler, drier days and the highest crowds and room rates. March to early June is hot, with temperatures reported at 35-42°C.
Late June to September is wet, and monument areas can turn muddy. Coracle crossings on the Tungabhadra can also be restricted when the river is high. October is a middle option with moderate rain and medium crowds. Hampi Utsava also falls in the cooler months, so book early if you want that window.
What does the Hampi trip cost include?
The Hampi trip cost is Rs.20,000 per person on twin sharing, land only. It covers five nights in standard 3-4 star hotels, daily breakfast, a private car with driver and guided sightseeing at Hampi and Badami.
Flights and train tickets, monument entry fees, most lunches and dinners, camera charges and personal expenses are extra. Entry fees change, so check the official source or confirm at booking. A Karnataka Tourism update in October 2026 notes an Indian visitor fee of around Rs.40 for the Vijaya Vittala Temple, subject to change.
How do you reach Hampi from major cities?
Hampi is reached through Hospet Junction by rail, Jindal Vijayanagar Airport by air, or by road from Bengaluru. Hospet is about 12 km from Hampi, and the airport is about 38 km away.
- Bengaluru: about 340 km by road, 6-7 hours by car or bus.
- Hyderabad: a listed air option takes about 4 hours; the airport has daily flights to Bengaluru and Hyderabad under the UDAN scheme.
- Delhi: about 24-30 hours by train via Hospet.
- Hubballi Airport is a further option, about 150 km from Hampi.
Hampi travel tips before you pack
Pack modest clothes, easy slip-on footwear and a scarf, since temple floors are stone and shoes come off at several shrines. These are the most useful Hampi travel tips for a couple on this route.
- Dress modestly at Virupaksha Temple and remove shoes where asked.
- Do not climb on or touch carvings, and do not tap the musical pillars at Vitthala.
- Non-vegetarian food and alcohol are prohibited in Hampi Village and the southern sacred heritage zone, according to the cited guide.
- Carry cash for coracles, bicycles and small cafes. A coracle ride typically costs Rs.50-Rs.100 per person, and bicycle hire Rs.50-Rs.100 a day (as of 2026).
- Carry water and wear grip shoes for Matanga Hill and Hemakuta Hill.

HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
