Journey notes
Why this route works
What the group sees and does in Varanasi
The route has three fixed points: the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat, a sunrise boat ride on the Ganga, and Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat. Sarnath fills the Buddhist heritage half-day, and Kashi Vishwanath Temple is covered on Day 2.
- Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat: held every evening near Kashi Vishwanath Temple; the coordinator gets the group there early for viewing space.
- Sunrise boat ride: a shared boat along the connected riverfront ghats, the clearest view of the ghat line you get on the trip.
- Subah-e-Banaras at Assi Ghat: sunrise yoga, music and devotional activity, followed by a group walk along the ghats.
- Kashi Vishwanath Temple: dedicated to Lord Shiva and counted among the twelve Jyotirlingas.
- Sarnath: Dhamek Stupa, Mulagandha Kuti Vihara, monastery ruins, gardens and the archaeological museum with the Ashoka Lion Capital.
- Banaras Hindu University: Indo-Gothic campus architecture, with the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum as an optional add-on.
How the days are organised
The route stays compact. Mornings go to the river and the ghats, afternoons to temples, the university and Sarnath, and evenings to Aarti or free time. Day 4 is deliberately open so the group can split into smaller interests without losing the shared base.
One coach covers the whole schedule. The airport is about 25 km from the city centre, and the road to the riverfront takes 45 to 60 minutes, longer in old-city traffic. A single group vehicle avoids repeated cab bookings and keeps everyone together at Aarti time.
Why a group departure costs less per head
Group pricing spreads coach, boat and coordinator costs across 8 to 30 people, which is why the land-only rate is Rs.14,000 per person on twin sharing. Booking cabs, boats and hotels separately for the same four nights usually adds up to more per person. For a different mix of nights or themes, look at the other Varanasi tour packages on Tripstor.
Best time to visit Varanasi with a group
October to March is the comfortable stretch. According to the Incredible India tourism portal, these months are the most pleasant for walking, boat rides and cultural activity. December runs 7-24 C with little rain, and fog is possible from December to February.
| Period | Weather in Varanasi | What it means for the group |
|---|---|---|
| October to February | Cool and dry; December 7-24 C | Best for boat rides and ghat walks; prices and crowds higher, fog possible |
| November | 12-30 C, about 5 mm rain | Very high crowds around Dev Deepawali; book early |
| March to June | Hot; about 38-45 C in May and June | Keep outdoor time to early morning and evening; lower prices |
| July to September | Monsoon; 250-300 mm in July and August | Slippery ghats, swollen river, boat services may be affected |
As of 2026, October has medium crowds and medium prices, which makes it a sensible value month before the November rush.
Ways to save or stretch the trip
- Travel in October or in the shoulder weeks of March, when prices sit below the November to February peak.
- Take the shared sunrise boat included in the package and skip a private rowboat unless a small family subset wants one.
- Use the open Day 4 for walking the ghats and the old city, which costs little, rather than adding paid activities.
- Keep the Bharat Kala Bhavan Museum and the Sarnath museum as optional extras and add them only if the group wants indoor time.
Who should pick something else
This package is not ideal for travellers who want a private, flexible plan, a premium hotel or a slow pace with no early starts. Sunrise sessions at Assi Ghat and the boat ride mean early mornings, and old-city lanes involve a lot of walking. Travellers with limited mobility or small children may prefer a lighter route, and anyone visiting between May and September should expect heat or monsoon disruption.
Stay in Varanasi: hotel categories and price tiers
The package uses standard 3-4 star city hotels on twin sharing, close enough to the ghats for the group to reach Aarti and sunrise sessions without long drives. Rooms are comfortable and functional rather than luxurious.
- Budget 3-star (approx Rs.10,500 per person, indicative): basic rooms, simple breakfast, a longer transfer to the ghats on some properties.
- Standard 3-4 star (Rs.14,000 per person, this package): clean twin-sharing rooms, breakfast included, central location suited to group movement.
- Premium 5-star (approx Rs.22,500 per person, indicative): larger rooms, more facilities, higher cost; available on request, confirm at booking.
Getting to Varanasi: access and local logistics
Varanasi is reached by air, rail or road. Direct flights from Delhi take about 1.5 hours, from Mumbai about 2 hours and from Bengaluru about 2.5 hours. Rail access includes Varanasi Junction and several other major stations on direct lines from large cities. The airport is about 25 km from the city centre, and old-city lanes are best covered on foot or by boat. No permits are needed for the planned sites. Mobile connectivity in the city is generally reliable, but confirm entry rules and any temple restrictions at booking.
Costs to plan for beyond the Rs.14,000
The package rate covers the land arrangements listed under inclusions. Flights or train fares to Varanasi are separate, along with meals not listed, tips and shopping. Optional extras such as a private rowboat are paid locally and depend on group size and duration, so confirm current prices before you book them. A shared boat costs a small per-person amount, while a private rowboat suits one to four people for roughly an hour (as of September 2026).

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
