The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 8-night journey through Spain— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What does the Costa del Sol family itinerary cover?
The trip runs 8 nights on Spain's southern coast, with beach mornings, a Malaga old town walk, day trips to Marbella and Nerja, and one full day at PortAventura. Most days include a rest window, and dinners are planned early so children and grandparents are not kept up late.
You land at Malaga airport and stay in one beach resort throughout, so the family unpacks once. A free half-day or afternoon comes every two to three days. Anyone who wants the pool or a nap can skip a tour without disturbing the group plan.
Why this route works for families with children and grandparents
Families on this route get short transfers, one base and activities that suit both ends of the age range. Most drives stay at or under about 90 minutes each way, and the PortAventura day is the only long outing.
- One resort for all 8 nights, so no hotel changes with luggage and children
- Beach and promenade time that needs no walking stamina or tickets
- A theme-park day where teenagers ride and elders can sit in shaded areas
- Early dinners and a late-start morning after every long day
If you are weighing other routes, our Spain tour packages page lists the full range.
Best time to visit Spain from India for a beach holiday
May, June and September suit a beach-based family holiday best. As of 2026 research, May runs about 15-27°C, September about 14-28°C, and June about 25-35°C with higher crowds and prices.
July and August are the hottest and most expensive months. Inland Spain can cross 40°C, and the coast is crowded. November to March is mild but cool for swimming, and some seasonal beach businesses close.
| Month | Temperature range | Crowds and prices | Fit for this trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| May | 15-27°C | Medium crowds, medium prices | Good for beach and sightseeing |
| June | 25-35°C | High crowds, peak prices | Warm, book early |
| July-August | 25-42°C | High crowds, peak prices | Hot, hard on elders |
| September | 14-28°C | Medium crowds, medium prices | Warm sea, easier days |
| October | 14-25°C | Medium crowds, moderate rain | Cooler, fewer beach days |
What does a Spain trip cost for a family?
This package costs Rs.73,500 per person on twin sharing, land only, with a Standard 3-4 star stay. International flights, visa fees, insurance, most lunches and dinners, and personal spending are extra. Peak-season surcharges, if any, are confirmed at booking.
Indicative tiers, per person, for context: a budget 3-star stay is around Rs.55,000, the standard 4-star plan here is Rs.73,500, and a premium 5-star stay is around Rs.1,17,500. Child rates are lower than adult rates and depend on age and bedding, so confirm at booking.
Kid and elder logistics on the road
Transfers use an air-conditioned vehicle booked for your group size, so children and grandparents can sit together. Tell us early if you need extra boot space for strollers or a folding wheelchair.
- Seating: grandparents are usually seated up front or near the door for easy exit; children sit in the middle row with an adult.
- Rest stops: on the Nerja and Marbella drives, plan a 15-minute stop for toilets, water and snacks.
- Strollers and wheelchairs: promenades and resort areas are mostly flat, while old town lanes in Malaga and Marbella have uneven stone. Accessibility details at each stop are confirmed at booking.
- Snacks: carry dry snacks, fruit and water for the road, as roadside options are limited.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets at least one activity built for it, and most activities are shared. The list below shows who gets what.
Younger children
- Sand play and shallow swimming on Days 2 and 5
- PortAventura family rides and shows on Day 3
- Promenade walks with ice cream in the evenings
Teenagers
- Bigger rides at PortAventura on Day 3
- Marbella marina and old town on Day 4
- Swimming and beach games at the quieter coastal stop on Day 5
Grandparents
- Slow walk through Malaga old town on Day 2
- Seated views from the Balcon de Europa in Nerja on Day 7
- Pool time, a market morning and promenade evenings
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
The pace is one main activity per day, with a rest window after lunch. Breakfast is usually 8:00 to 9:00 and departures around 9:30 to 10:00. Nobody is woken early except for PortAventura on Day 3 and the airport transfer on Day 9.
Drives from the resort run roughly 30 to 90 minutes each way for Malaga, Marbella and Nerja. PortAventura is the longest outing and needs an early start and a full day, so we plan the next morning free. Spain's summer afternoons are hot, so shaded breaks matter more than adding stops.
Family rooms, meals and comfort
Standard 3-4 star beach hotels usually offer family rooms or an extra bed, and some offer connecting rooms. Exact room types depend on the property and are confirmed at booking. Share the travellers' ages when you ask for a quote.
Breakfast is included. Vegetarian dishes are easy to find in resort restaurants, and Indian restaurants operate in Malaga and larger coastal towns. Jain food without onion and garlic needs advance notice, so mention it at booking. Spanish kitchens often close between lunch and dinner, so plan snacks for the gap.
Tips for travelling with kids and elders in Spain
Five checks cover most family problems on this route. Do them before you fly.
- Heat: inland Spain can exceed 40°C in July and August, so carry hats, sunscreen and water, and avoid midday sun on the beach.
- Evening layers: pack a light jacket, as coastal evenings cool down outside summer.
- ID and documents: carry passports for every traveller, including children, plus separate photocopies and a digital scan.
- Medicines: carry regular prescriptions with a doctor's note, and dial 112 for emergencies anywhere in Spain.
- Ride rules: PortAventura rides have height and age limits, so check each ride on the day and keep your children's ages handy.
Where you stay on the Costa del Sol
You stay in a Standard 3-4 star beach resort on the Costa del Sol for all 8 nights. It is a single base with a pool, breakfast and a short walk or drive to the sand, chosen so that day trips return before evening.
The three stay tiers differ mainly in distance from the beach and in room size. Budget 3-star rooms are compact and may sit a few streets inland. The standard 4-star plan is closer to the promenade with family-room options. Premium 5-star places add larger rooms, more dining and better pool areas. We do not name a property in this listing, and the confirmed hotel is shared with your voucher.
Spain entry, money and flights for Indian travellers
Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa for Spain, applied through the Spanish consulate's authorised application route. Our Spain visa for Indians guide lists the documents, and the current fee is on the official portal, so check it there.
The local currency is the euro. We do not quote a rate, so check the day's rate before you exchange money. Flights are not part of this package. As of October 2026 research, one-stop journeys from Indian cities to Barcelona take roughly 17.7 to 19.2 hours, such as Delhi about 19.1 hours and Kolkata about 17.7 hours. For this route you land at Malaga, so confirm the connecting itinerary and timings when you book flights.

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
