Why this route works
What is a Peru family tour package?
A Peru family tour package is a land-based holiday with hotels, transfers, guided visits and internal travel arranged for a group that includes children and older relatives. Only international flights from India are left for you to book.
This version is built around Lake Sandoval, a natural sanctuary near Puerto Maldonado where boat trips show caimans, turtles and giant river otters. Lake Titicaca is treated as an optional cruise-based add-on, because it sits in Puno and the 7-day route does not pass through it. Ask us at booking if you want it swapped in for a day. Hotels are standard 3-4 star, and family or connecting rooms are requested wherever a property has them.

Day-by-day plan for the family
The seven days run in this order: arrival and rest in Lima, a flight to Cusco with a drive down to the Sacred Valley, a full Sacred Valley day by van, Machu Picchu by train, a return to Cusco with a free afternoon, a flight to Puerto Maldonado with the Lake Sandoval excursion, and a short lodge morning before departure.
The full day-wise plan, with morning, afternoon and evening slots, meals and the stay category for each night, is in the itinerary section of this page. Each day keeps drives short and leaves space for rest.
What is included and what is not?
The price covers hotels and the jungle lodge, daily breakfast and the meals marked in the plan, private transfers, the guided visits, the Machu Picchu train and the internal flights listed in the itinerary.
International airfare, visa costs if applicable, travel insurance, personal expenses and optional add-ons are not covered. The inclusions and exclusions lists on this page give the exact split. Anything we cannot confirm for your dates is marked as to be confirmed at booking.
Kid and elder logistics
Seating, rooms and access are planned around the youngest and oldest traveller in the group. Vans seat the family together, and drives are broken with snack and toilet stops.
- Family or connecting rooms are requested at every hotel that offers them; the jungle lodge room type is confirmed at booking.
- Machu Picchu is reached by train and bus, and the Sacred Valley is covered by van with minimal walking, so a wheelchair or stroller user should tell us in advance for stair and boarding help.
- The Lake Sandoval boat trip involves stepping into and out of a boat and a short approach to the water; confirm mobility needs with us before booking.
- Carry a light folding stroller or child carrier for uneven paths in the Sacred Valley.
Why this route works for families
The route keeps walking low and transfers short. Machu Picchu is reached entirely by train and bus, and the Sacred Valley is covered by van with minimal walking, so grandparents are not pushed up stairs or trails.
Altitude is the main health point in Peru. Going to the Sacred Valley before Cusco lets the family settle into the highlands gradually, since the valley sits lower. Dinners are early, snack stops are planned on the longer drives, and one free afternoon in Cusco is kept as a rest window before the Amazon leg.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets at least one day built around what suits it best.
Younger children
- Lake Sandoval boat ride to spot caimans, turtles and giant river otters
- Train ride to Machu Picchu through mountain scenery
- Market stops in the Sacred Valley with short, easy walks
Teenagers
- Guided walk through Machu Picchu with the history behind the Inca city
- Ollantaytambo terraces at a steady pace
- Wildlife spotting with the naturalist guide at the lake
Grandparents
- Sacred Valley by van with minimal walking
- Machu Picchu reached by train and bus, with seating breaks on the visit
- Free afternoon in Cusco for rest
Pace, rest and logistics
Each day has one main activity and a rest window. The longest road stretches are the Cusco airport to the Sacred Valley drive and the Ollantaytambo to Cusco drive, and both include a snack and toilet stop.
Days 2 and 6 involve flights, so mornings start earlier on those days. Day 5 is deliberately light after Machu Picchu. Keep the first highland day easy and drink water often. Strollers work on paved sections but not on the citadel's stone paths, so a carrier is more practical.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Rooms are standard 3-4 star, with family or connecting rooms requested wherever the property has them. Triple and quad rooms are common in Peru, and we confirm the bed layout per family at booking.
Vegetarian and child-friendly meals are available at hotels and the lodge with advance notice. Indian-style vegetarian plates can be requested in Lima and Cusco. Strict Jain meals are harder to guarantee in the Amazon, so carry dry snacks. Highland nights are cold, so ask for extra blankets at the property.
Travelling with kids and elders: five tips
- Carry passports with at least six months of validity for every member, including children, and keep photocopies separate.
- Pack warm layers for the Andes, since highland nights can be freezing even in the dry season, and a light rain jacket for the Amazon.
- Book Machu Picchu entry and train seats early for June to August, since daily visitor numbers are capped on peak dates. In 2026 the daily cap is 5,600 on specified peak dates, and a S/11 conservation charge for foreign visitors was scheduled from May; confirm the current charge and ticket status at booking.
- Talk to your doctor before travel about altitude and any chronic conditions for grandparents, and carry prescription medicines for the full trip with a copy of the prescription.
- Keep the first highland day light and drink water often, and tell the guide early if anyone feels unwell.
Where you stay: Miraflores, the Sacred Valley and the Amazon
The trip uses three kinds of stay, all in the standard 3-4 star range. Names are confirmed at booking based on availability for your dates.
- Lima, Miraflores: a 3-4 star city hotel in the area most first-time visitors choose, with restaurants and parks within a short walk.
- Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu town: mid-priced 3-4 star hotels in Urubamba or Ollantaytambo, and a simple hotel in Aguas Calientes for the Machu Picchu night. Urubamba suits families because it has resort-style properties.
- Cusco and the Amazon: a 3-4 star hotel near the Plaza de Armas, and a standard jungle lodge in the Tambopata area with boat access to Lake Sandoval.
Indicative price tiers, per person, for context: Budget 3-star approximately Rs.85,000; Standard 3-4 star (this package) Rs.1,13,500; Premium 5-star approximately Rs.1,81,500. The final figure moves with travel month, room type and how many children share rooms.
Entry, money and flights from India to Peru
Indian passport holders should check the official Peruvian consular or immigration portal for the current visa rule and fee before booking, since requirements can change. Carry a passport valid for at least six months and proof of onward travel. The local currency is the Peruvian sol (PEN); check a live rate before you travel and carry a mix of cash and cards, as small shops and the lodge may prefer cash. Flights from India usually connect through a Gulf, European or American hub into Lima, and total journey time depends on the route and layover. Confirm fares and flight times with us or on the airline site at booking.
Best time to visit Peru from India
The best time to visit Peru from India for a family trip is May to September, when the Andes are drier and the skies are clearer. Nights in the highlands are cold even then.
June to August is peak season, with the highest prices and demand at Machu Picchu, so book early. October and November are calmer, with moderate rain returning. January to March is the heavy rain period in the highlands, with muddy trails, landslides and occasional train or tour interruptions, which makes it a poor fit for a family with grandparents. The Amazon around Lake Sandoval is wetter from November to April, and showers can fall in any month.

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
