Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Lakshadweep family package?
A Lakshadweep family package is a fixed-stay island holiday where accommodation, meals, transfers and lagoon activities are arranged together for mixed ages. This one runs six nights on Kavaratti with daily breakfast and dinner and activities chosen so nobody is rushed.
Kavaratti Lagoon is the centre of the plan. Glass-bottom boats let everyone see coral and fish without entering deep water, and kayaks and canoes run on the shallow side. Mornings are for water, afternoons for rest, and one afternoon is kept free after every two activity days.
Lakshadweep family tour package: the short answer
This Lakshadweep family tour package suits parents with children and grandparents who want calm water and slow days rather than road touring. Price starts at Rs.52,500 per person (land only, twin sharing, flights excluded, as of 2026), and the dry season from October to May is the best time to go.
Kavaratti is an inhabited island and works well as one base for the whole week. Unpacking once helps toddlers and grandparents settle, and the lagoon is within easy reach of the stay. If you want to compare other island bases before fixing dates, see our Lakshadweep tour packages.
Day-by-day plan at a glance
The week moves from arrival and rest to one water activity a day, with free time built in. Day 1 is the Agatti arrival and Kavaratti transfer, Days 2 to 4 cover the glass-bottom boat, kayaking and snorkelling, Days 5 and 6 are lighter, and Day 7 is departure via Agatti.
The full day-by-day breakdown, with morning, afternoon and evening slots and meals, is listed in the itinerary section of this page.
Inclusions and exclusions in plain words
The package covers six nights on Kavaratti, daily breakfast and dinner, island transfers and the listed lagoon sessions. Flights, ship tickets, extra water sports, lunches and personal costs are not included.
Anything that depends on the operator or the schedule, such as permit-related fees, is marked as to be confirmed at booking. Check the full inclusions and exclusions lists on this page before paying.
Kid and elder logistics
Transfers are short, and the island has no long road journeys, so seating and rest stops are rarely an issue. Ask for ground-floor or easy-access rooms for grandparents at booking.
Stroller and wheelchair access varies by property and by the boat jetty, so confirm both before travel. Helicopter and vessel transfers have luggage and boarding rules, so share each traveller's age and mobility needs with your coordinator in advance.
Why this works for families
One base, short distances and shallow-water activities mean children and elders can follow the same plan. Nobody needs deep-water skills, and any member can sit out a session and join the next one.
Meals are fixed at the stay for breakfast and dinner, so there is no daily hunt for food. Early dinners and a free afternoon every few days keep younger children from getting overtired.
Highlights by age group
Younger children
- Glass-bottom boat ride over the lagoon, with coral and fish visible from the boat
- Shallow-side canoeing in a life jacket, seated with a parent
- Evening play on the beach under supervision
Teenagers
- Kayaking in double kayaks, with a parent or sibling
- Supervised snorkelling for those comfortable in water
- Optional extras such as pedal boats, paid locally
Grandparents
- Glass-bottom boat ride, which needs no swimming or diving
- Sunset viewing from the beach side
- Unhurried island walks in the cooler late hours
Pace, rest and logistics
The daily rhythm is breakfast, one water session in the morning, lunch and rest through the hottest hours, then a short walk or swim before an early dinner. Afternoons are protected for naps and indoor play.
Travel days are the heaviest. Day 1 involves the Kochi connection, Agatti arrival and a helicopter or vessel transfer to Kavaratti, so keep snacks, water and a change of clothes in hand luggage. Flight and helicopter schedules can shift with weather, so keep a buffer day before any onward connection.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Rooms are in a standard 3-4 star island property, twin sharing. Families of three or four can ask for a family or connecting room, subject to availability at booking.
Food on Kavaratti is Kerala-influenced, built around rice, coconut and seafood, and prepared according to halal principles, with pork and alcohol minimal or absent. Vegetarian options include dal, rice, vegetable kurma, vegetarian thali, breadfruit curry and vegetable Masroshi, though choices can be limited. Kilanji, a thin rice-and-egg crepe with coconut milk, banana and jaggery, often suits children. No source confirms Jain-specific meals, so raise this at booking.
Travelling with kids and elders: five tips
- Carry birth certificates or school ID for every child, and photo ID for every adult, for permit and boarding checks.
- Pack reef-safe sunscreen, hats and slip-on footwear for boat rides and beach walks.
- Keep a light rain jacket even in the dry season, as sudden showers are possible.
- Carry regular medicines for the full trip plus a few spare days, since pharmacy stock on the island is limited.
- Tell your coordinator about vegetarian or fish-free needs before arrival, as meals without fish stock may need advance notice.
Where families stay on Kavaratti
Kavaratti is the administrative capital of Lakshadweep and a standard base for 4-5 night stays. The stay categories below are indicative per-person prices derived from this package, and exact properties are confirmed at booking.
| Category | Indicative price per person | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.39,500 | Simple rooms, basic facilities, meals at the stay |
| Standard 4-star (default) | Rs.52,500 | Comfortable twin-sharing rooms, meals at the stay, family room on request |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.84,000 | Larger rooms, more facilities, higher service level |
Getting to Kavaratti: access, permits and connectivity
Every route runs through Kochi. From there you fly to Agatti (AGX), and a helicopter transfer from Agatti to Kavaratti operates throughout the year. Ship services and mechanised wooden vessels also link the islands with the mainland, taking 14 to 20 hours from Kochi depending on the island.
Entry rules for visitors were eased in 2026, and the operator handles the paperwork for this group. Permit fees, if any, are to be confirmed at booking. Rough seas from June to September can disrupt ships and water sports. Mobile connectivity can be patchy on the islands, so confirm network cover with your coordinator.
Best time to visit Lakshadweep and trip cost
October to May is the dry season, and November to March is the most comfortable stretch for families, with 22-32 C and low rain. April and May are hotter, and June to September brings heavy rain and rough seas, when ship-based tourism is closed.
Beyond the Rs.52,500 package price, flights from Kochi to Agatti typically run Rs.8,000-18,000 one way (as of July 2026), and ship berths Rs.900-5,000. Kayak or single canoe is about INR 500 for 30 minutes, snorkelling about INR 800 per person for 30 minutes, scuba diving about INR 3,500 for 45 minutes, and a glass-bottom boat about INR 1,500 per person for 60 minutes with a minimum of four people. Confirm all of these at booking.

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
