Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Kashmir honeymoon package and how is this one built?
A Kashmir honeymoon package is a land-only domestic holiday for couples, usually based in Srinagar with day trips to nearby valleys. This Kashmir Dal Lake Houseboat Honeymoon 5N 6D starts on the water and keeps transfers short.
You spend the first two nights on a Dal Lake houseboat in Srinagar and the remaining three nights in a standard 3-4 star hotel. Each day has one main outing, and the rest of the time is left open for rest, shopping or a slow dinner. Compare this route with other Kashmir tour packages if you want a more active or longer plan.

Moments to plan around
Four moments are worth timing on this route, and each has a best day. Keep them in mind when you choose flight dates and tell us what matters most to you.
- First evening on the lake (Day 1): a private shikara ride at sunset, soon after check-in, while the light is still low on the water.
- First morning on the houseboat (Day 2): tea on the deck before the Mughal garden visits, when the lake is calm and quiet.
- Meadow and gondola hour (Day 3): the Gulmarg Gondola ride towards Apharwat Peak, best taken in the clear late morning.
- Riverside dusk (Day 4): a slow walk by the Lidder river in Pahalgam before the drive back to Srinagar.
Why this route suits couples
This route suits couples because it keeps you in one base, limits long drives to two days and puts privacy on the water first. Three things make it work for two people.
- The houseboat gives you a private cabin and deck on Dal Lake, away from traffic and crowded hotel lobbies.
- Srinagar is the only base after Day 2, so you unpack once instead of changing hotels every night.
- Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are treated as day trips, so you return to the same room each evening.
Romantic highlights on this itinerary
Six named experiences carry the romance of this trip, each with one detail worth knowing before you travel.
- Dal Lake shikara ride: a private ride on a traditional shikara, with lake markets and houseboats along the way.
- Houseboat stay: two nights on Dal Lake with meals served on board and a deck facing the water.
- Nishat Bagh: a Mughal garden in Srinagar, visited on a relaxed morning walk.
- Shalimar Bagh: a second Mughal garden on the same Srinagar circuit, with space to stroll without a fixed schedule.
- Gulmarg Gondola: a cable car ride towards Apharwat Peak, with meadow time at the top.
- Betaab Valley and Aru Valley: two Pahalgam valleys on the Day 4 drive, with short walks and optional pony rides.
How the days flow
The pace is slow by design: breakfast is never rushed, and most days have one outing in the morning or afternoon, not both. Day 1 is light after arrival, and Day 2 stays inside Srinagar.
Days 3 to 5 are the longer ones, with drives of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours to Gulmarg, 3 to 3.5 hours to Pahalgam and 2.5 hours to Sonamarg. Day 5 is optional, and you can swap Sonamarg for a free day in Srinagar if you would rather rest. Day 6 is a late-morning checkout and airport transfer.
Choosing the right stay style
For a couple, the stay choice matters more than the room count. Look at view, privacy and access to the lake or town, and ask about these three points at booking.
- Houseboat cabin: pick a lake-facing cabin with a private deck if one is available, since these go first in peak season.
- Hotel room: ask for a room away from the main road and, where possible, with a valley or garden view.
- Access: a stay close to the lakefront makes evening walks and shikara access easier on the first two nights.
Best months for a couple's trip to Kashmir
The best months for a Kashmir honeymoon are April to June and September to October, when days are mild and the valley is open. Temperature and crowds change a lot across the year, so season shapes this trip.
| Season | What the trip feels like |
|---|---|
| Spring (March to May) | Moderate temperatures, flowers and the tulip bloom in Srinagar in April |
| Summer (May to August) | Warm and green; crowds and prices peak in May and June, with rain in July and August |
| Autumn (September to November) | Cooler days, chinar colours and lower crowds |
| Winter (December to February) | Cold and snowy, with skiing at Gulmarg and some higher roads closed |
Heavy rain can cause landslides and road closures, so keep a buffer day if you travel in July or August. Srinagar airport is closed from 1 to 15 October for runway maintenance, so avoid those dates.
Add-ons worth considering
A few add-ons can lift a honeymoon without changing the route. Confirm availability and price at booking, since none of these are part of the Rs.29,000 base.
- Private candlelit dinner: best on Day 2 on the houseboat deck, when you have no outing planned.
- Photographer: best for the Day 1 sunset shikara ride or the Day 3 Gulmarg meadow.
- Spa session: best after the long Pahalgam drive on Day 4.
- Extra shikara hour: a longer ride on Dal Lake on Day 5 if you skip Sonamarg.
Where you stay in Srinagar: houseboat and hotel tiers
This trip uses two stay types in Srinagar: a Dal Lake houseboat for two nights and a standard 3-4 star hotel for three. The tiers below are indicative per-person prices for context, derived from the listed package price.
| Tier | Indicative price per person | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.22,000 | Simpler rooms and a more basic houseboat cabin, with fewer extras |
| Standard 4-star (this package) | Rs.29,000 | Lake-facing houseboat cabin and a comfortable standard hotel room |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.46,500 | Larger rooms, better views and more service on both the lake and in town |

Getting to Kashmir and moving around: access and logistics
Srinagar is the arrival point for this trip, reached by direct flight from Delhi in about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, from Mumbai in about 2.5 hours and from Hyderabad in about 2.5 hours. Bengaluru has occasional direct flights of around 2 hours 45 minutes.
Rail is also possible: the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla link connected the Kashmir Valley to the national network in June 2025. The airport is about 45 minutes from Dal Lake by road, and Gulmarg, Pahalgam and Sonamarg are all road trips from Srinagar. Confirm any permit or entry rules at booking, and check road status too, since weather can close roads. Mobile signal is dependable in Srinagar and can be patchy on hill stretches.

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
