Package overview
The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 5-night journey through Jim Corbett— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
Why this plan works for families
Transfers are short, the hotel base stays the same for all five nights, and only one morning needs a pre-dawn start for the main Dhikala safari. Children and elders get a free afternoon on Day 4, and dinners are kept early.
Dhikala and Garjia Devi Temple are the fixed points; everything else is kept loose. Safari slots start early, so afternoons are light. There is no daily packing, which helps grandparents and small children most.
Highlights for each age group
Each group gets something it can enjoy without sitting out the main activity. Jeep safaris are vehicle-based, so no one walks long distances.
- Younger children (5 to 12): jeep safaris, the Corbett Waterfall short walk on the Kaladhungi side, free time at the hotel grounds on Day 4. Summer camps for children are also listed among Corbett activities.
- Teenagers: the Dhikala jeep safari with a forest guide, the Jim Corbett Museum in Kaladhungi, and an evening in Ramnagar market on Day 5.
- Grandparents: Garjia Devi Temple darshan with time to climb the steps in stages, ground-floor rooms where available, and slow mornings on Days 2, 4 and 6.
Pace, rest and daily logistics
Safari mornings start before dawn, and the gate is about 18 km from Ramnagar, with the Dhikala lodge a further drive inside the forest. Days 1, 2, 4 and 6 are light, so the early starts on Days 3 and 5 do not pile up.
Each day has a rest window after lunch. Drives outside the forest are short, and we avoid driving back from the park after dark. For wheelchair users, forest tracks and temple steps are not step-free, so confirm access needs at booking and we will adjust the plan.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Families usually get a triple or a pair of adjoining rooms, depending on the hotel. Family-room and connecting-room availability is confirmed at booking, since it varies by property and date.
Breakfast and dinner are at the hotel and most hotels in the Dhikuli and Ramnagar belt serve vegetarian meals. Jain food is usually possible with advance notice. Children's meals such as plain rice, dal, parathas and simple pasta are normally easy to arrange. Packed breakfasts are available for safari mornings.
Tips for travelling with kids and elders
Book the Dhikala permit first, then build the rest of the plan around that date. Jeep safari reservations open progressively and can be made up to 45 days in advance on the official Corbett Tiger Reserve booking website.
- Carry a fleece or jacket for December and January mornings, when open-jeep temperatures drop sharply; minimums can fall to 2°C.
- Pack a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle for March to June, when temperatures can reach 42°C.
- Keep original photo ID for every traveller, including children, for gate checks.
- Ask for ground-floor rooms if grandparents are travelling.
- Carry regular medicines and a basic first-aid kit; help inside the forest zones is limited.
Where families stay near Jim Corbett
This trip uses one standard 3 to 4 star hotel or forest-area lodge for all five nights, either in the Dhikuli resort belt along the Kosi River or near Ramnagar. Dhikuli suits families and mid-range budgets; Ramnagar suits tighter budgets.
| Stay tier | Indicative price per person | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.16,500 | Simple rooms in Ramnagar or approach-road lodges, basic meals |
| Standard 3 to 4 star (this package) | Rs.22,000 | Resort-belt or forest-area hotel, family-friendly rooms, daily breakfast and dinner |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.35,000 | Larger rooms, more on-site facilities, usually closer to the forest edge |
The package costs Rs.22,000 per person on twin sharing, land only, with flights excluded. Safari permit fees, canter charges where applicable and any zone upgrade are confirmed at booking, because forest department tariffs change. Getting to Jim Corbett and what to confirm
Ramnagar is the main gateway. The railway station is about 12 km from the park, and a Delhi to Ramnagar train takes roughly 5.75 hours via Moradabad and Kashipur. By road, the route from Delhi runs through Hapur, Moradabad and Kashipur.
Pantnagar is the closest domestic airport, with Dehradun and Delhi also usable. Safari entry needs a valid permit and photo ID for every traveller. Heavy monsoon rain from July to September can close core zones and wash out roads, so we avoid those months. Mobile signal is patchy inside the forest zones; confirm connectivity at your hotel at booking.
October to February is the best time for families. Safari access reopens in stages in October and November, while December and January are the coolest and also the busiest and most expensive. March to April is warmer but workable, and May to mid-June gets very hot.

FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
