The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 6-night journey through Iceland— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What this Iceland honeymoon trip covers
The route stays in the south and west of Iceland, with short driving legs and Reykjavík as the base for the first and last nights. The Blue Lagoon sits close to Keflavík International Airport, so the soak happens on arrival day.
The Golden Circle gives you Þingvellir National Park (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), the Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss Waterfall. The South Coast adds Seljalandsfoss, Skógafoss, the black sand of Reynisfjara and glacier views toward Sólheimajökull and Vatnajökull. Evenings stay free for aurora watching whenever skies are clear.
How the days flow
The pace is deliberately light: one main outing a day, late breakfasts, and free afternoons in Reykjavík and on the South Coast. Nothing starts before breakfast is finished.
- Days 1 and 2 are for landing, soaking and walking Reykjavík without a schedule.
- Days 3 and 4 are the two longer outings, the Golden Circle and the South Coast.
- Day 5 is a short glacier-viewpoint morning with the rest of the day open.
- Days 6 and 7 are a slow return, a final city evening and an easy airport transfer.
Aurora attempts happen after dinner, so you are never choosing between a sightseeing stop and a night sky. If the forecast is poor, the evening simply stays free.
Moments to plan around
Four moments carry this trip, and each has a best day on the route.
- First soak at the Blue Lagoon: Day 1, straight after landing, when you have no other commitment and the water is a gentle reset after the flight.
- A clear-sky aurora night: Day 3 or Day 4, from the countryside base or the Vík area, where there is less city light than in Reykjavík.
- The signature dinner for two: Day 5, in the quiet evening that follows the glacier-viewpoint morning.
- Sunrise or sunset at Reynisfjara: Day 4, with enough time to stand back from the waterline and just look.
Why this suits couples
This route suits couples because it combines private evenings, calm settings and short drives. Both signature experiences, the Blue Lagoon and the aurora, happen in the evening and need no athletic effort.
- Privacy: countryside guesthouses on Days 3 and 4 put you away from city crowds, and aurora watching is a two-person activity in the dark.
- Setting: geothermal water, black sand and glacier views give you time in the open air instead of in a coach.
- Pace: drives are short enough that one partner is not stuck behind the wheel for hours while the other waits.
Romantic highlights
These are the six experiences the route is built around, each with one practical detail.
- Blue Lagoon soak on arrival day, with about two hours in the water and steam rooms.
- Aurora watching from the countryside base on clear nights, subject to weather and solar activity.
- Walk behind the curtain of Seljalandsfoss when conditions allow.
- Skógafoss viewing platform, a short walk from the car park.
- Reynisfjara black sand beach, visited with a firm rule to stay well back from the surf.
- One signature dinner for two on Day 5, arranged at the hotel or a nearby restaurant.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the stay that matters is the one with a view, a quiet corridor and easy access to the night sky. Size and star rating count for less than location.
Ask for a room away from the main road and the dining area. On the South Coast, a sea-facing room near Vík is worth requesting. In the Golden Circle area, small guesthouses near Selfoss, Laugarvatn, Flúðir or Hella tend to be darker at night than hotels on a main road, which helps for aurora viewing. In Reykjavík, a central hotel lets you walk to dinner.
Best months for a couple's trip to Iceland
September to March is the better window for the Northern Lights, while May to August suits couples who want daylight and open roads. The two windows give very different trips.
| Period | What the trip feels like | Crowds and prices |
|---|---|---|
| September to October | Aurora conditions return; 2.2 to 10.1 C; October is wettest at about 85.6 mm | Medium crowds, medium prices |
| November to March | Longest nights and best aurora odds; roughly -3.0 to 3.4 C; some road closures | Low crowds, low prices |
| April to May | Longer daylight, lower rainfall, aurora fading | Medium crowds, medium prices |
| June to August | Near-continuous daylight, highland access, no aurora; 6.7 to 13.3 C | High crowds, high prices |
For travellers from India, September and March work well for a first Iceland trip, with dark skies and milder weather than midwinter. Highland F-roads generally open from mid-June and close in winter, so check road and weather conditions before any drive.
Add-ons worth considering
Add-ons are optional and priced separately; confirm each at booking.
- Private dinner: best on Day 5 or Day 6, when you are rested and the schedule is open.
- Photographer: fits the Blue Lagoon on Day 1 or Seljalandsfoss on Day 4, where natural light and water make for good portraits.
- Spa treatment: suits the free afternoon in Reykjavík on Day 2 or Day 6.
- Guided glacier walk: an option on Day 5 near Sólheimajökull, subject to conditions.
- Helicopter tour: listed among Reykjavík activities and worth considering for a special occasion.
Stay options in Iceland for this trip
This trip is priced on a standard 3-4 star category, with the route split between Reykjavík, a Golden Circle or South Coast countryside base, and the Vík area. Indicative tiers per person are Budget 3-star at about Rs.71,000, Standard 4-star at Rs.94,500 (the default for this package), and Premium 5-star at about Rs.1,51,000.
- Budget 3-star: simple rooms, shared or smaller common areas, and fewer upgrades.
- Standard 3-4 star: comfortable rooms, breakfast on site and a mix of city hotels and countryside guesthouses.
- Premium 5-star: larger rooms, better views and on-site dining, with a higher price per night.
Accommodation is the biggest cost swing. Peak-period rates run 30 to 50 percent above shoulder-season prices, and hotels and guesthouses add a tourist tax of ISK 800 per room per night, as reported in 2026. Note that a proposed annual access fee for non-tax-resident visitors aged 18 and over, covering Þingvellir, Gullfoss and Geysir, was reported on 28 September 2026 and is not confirmed as in force. Check the current position at booking.

Getting around Iceland
There are no trains in Iceland. Strætó buses run in Reykjavík and connect most towns, but this package uses a private vehicle for the long legs so you are not working around bus timetables. For any independent driving, check road and weather conditions first, and use a four-wheel-drive vehicle in winter conditions.

HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
