The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 6-night journey through Gujarat— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Gujarat family holiday cover?
This trip uses two bases: Ahmedabad for heritage and the riverfront, and the Statue of Unity area in central Gujarat for the main attraction. You get six nights, seven days and no day with more than one major drive.
In Ahmedabad, the plan covers the Sabarmati Riverfront, Sabarmati Ashram and a short walk through the old city pol lanes. The Statue of Unity section covers the viewing gallery, the exhibition area and an evening visit to the site. Gir, Dwarka, Somnath and Kutch are not part of this plan, so the route stays slow and easy on grandparents.
Who is this Gujarat trip best for?
This trip suits families with children aged 5 and above and at least one grandparent, where comfort matters more than distance covered. Parents who want lion safaris, temple towns and the Kutch desert in a single week need a longer, multi-base circuit instead.
Research on Gujarat notes that circuits across Kutch, Saurashtra and central Gujarat span many destinations and need several days. That is why this plan stays in central Gujarat and Ahmedabad. You can compare it with other Gujarat tour packages if your group wants a wider route.
When is the best time to visit Gujarat from across India?
November to February is the best time to visit Gujarat with children and elders: cool, clear and dry, with temperatures of about 10-30°C. Crowds and prices peak in these months, so book early.
| Season | Months | Weather | Fit for families |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter | November to February | About 10-30°C, dry and clear | Best choice; full days outdoors are comfortable |
| Summer | March to June | About 25-45°C; April and May can exceed 40°C | Hard on young children and elders |
| Monsoon | July to October | About 25-35°C, humid, rain varies by region | Possible, but rain can disrupt outdoor sightseeing from July to September |
What does the Gujarat trip cost cover?
The listed price is Rs.21,000 per person as of 2026, on twin sharing, land only, with flights excluded. It assumes standard 3-4 star hotels, air-conditioned road transfers and the sightseeing in the itinerary.
Hotel category changes the total. Indicative per-person tiers are about Rs.16,000 for a budget 3-star, Rs.21,000 for the standard 4-star plan, and about Rs.33,500 for a premium 5-star. Extra rooms for children and peak winter dates also move the final figure, so confirm the exact rate at booking.
Is this a good Gujarat holiday for kids and grandparents together?
Yes, because the plan keeps transfers short and puts the biggest attraction on its own day with a rest window either side. Children get open spaces and an exhibition area, while grandparents get seating, shade and no rushed connections.
Kid and elder logistics on the road
Plan one snack and rest stop on each long drive. Seat grandparents in the front or near the door, and keep small children next to a parent with water and a change of clothes in the same bag.
- Ask hotels for ground-floor or lift-access rooms for elders.
- Carry a foldable stroller for children under 5; the viewing area involves long walks and security queues.
- Wheelchair access at monuments can vary, so confirm at booking if anyone needs it.
- Keep medicines in hand luggage, not in the boot of the vehicle.
Why this plan works for families
The plan limits each travel day to one long transfer, so children are not in the car all day. Mealtimes stay fixed, grandparents get a nap window after lunch, and every few days there is a free half-day with no fixed sightseeing.
- One main attraction per day, never two big ones back to back.
- Early dinners of 7 pm or so, which suit children and elders.
- Vegetarian food is the norm in Gujarat, so family meals are rarely a problem.
- Shared activities such as the riverfront walk and the exhibition area work for all ages.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets something of its own, so nobody is just waiting for others to finish.
Younger children (5 to 11)
- Open promenade at the Sabarmati Riverfront for running around.
- Exhibition and museum area at the Statue of Unity.
- Light evening visit to the site once the heat drops.
Teenagers
- Viewing gallery at the Statue of Unity for photographs.
- Sabarmati Ashram, where a short guided talk can link to school history.
- Old city pol lanes, an easy walk with a local guide.
Grandparents
- Slow, seated visit at Sabarmati Ashram.
- Riverfront benches and shaded walkways at sunset.
- Free morning on Day 5 with no fixed activity.
Daily pace, rest and driving times
A typical day starts with breakfast at 8 am, one main outing, a lunch break and a rest window of about two hours after lunch. Dinner is early.
The two long transfers are Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity area on Day 3 and the return on Day 6. Exact drive times depend on traffic and stops, so confirm at booking. A midway break for snacks and washrooms is built in each time. Day 5 is a deliberately light day.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Family rooms or two connecting rooms are the usual options in standard 3-4 star hotels, subject to availability. Tell us the number of adults and children at booking so rooms can be held together.
Gujarat is largely vegetarian, and Jain meals are generally available on request. Child-friendly options such as plain dal-rice, khichdi, parathas and fruit are easy to find. Breakfast and dinner are planned in the hotel on most days; lunch is typically on your own, so you can match it to hunger and nap time.
Tips for travelling with kids and elders in Gujarat
Heat and dehydration are the main risks. Carry water, ORS sachets and photo ID for every traveller, including children.
- Carry refillable water bottles and ORS; dry heat dehydrates children quickly, especially from March onwards.
- Keep a light layer for early mornings between November and February, when temperatures can drop to about 10-12°C.
- Carry photo ID for each family member, including children, for monument entries and hotel check-in.
- Book the Statue of Unity viewing gallery slot in advance and confirm timings at booking.
- Ask hotels for a 7 pm dinner and keep a packet of dry snacks in the vehicle for long drives.
Where you stay near the Statue of Unity and in Ahmedabad
You stay in two places: three nights around Ahmedabad and three nights near the Statue of Unity. Both are standard 3-4 star hotels with family-friendly rooms. Ahmedabad is described as a heritage-city base with Sabarmati Ashram, the old city and the riverfront.
- Budget 3-star (about Rs.16,000 per person, indicative): clean, basic rooms, fewer facilities and simpler food choices.
- Standard 4-star (Rs.21,000 per person, the default plan): air-conditioned rooms, in-house restaurant, family or connecting rooms on request.
- Premium 5-star (about Rs.33,500 per person, indicative): larger rooms, pool and play areas, wider meal choices and better elder-friendly access.

Getting to Gujarat and moving around
Ahmedabad is Gujarat's main air and rail hub, and Vadodara is a major station on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor with its own airport. Travel from Delhi via Ahmedabad takes about 5.65 hours by air, and from Kochi about 9.2 hours, as of September 2026.
Between towns, this trip uses a private air-conditioned vehicle. No permits are needed for the sightseeing in this plan, though safari permits are separate if you add Gir. Mobile connectivity is generally fine in cities and weaker on some highway stretches. Airport and station transfer times are not published in the sources we hold, so confirm at booking.

HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
