Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Gujarat senior-friendly package?
A Gujarat senior-friendly package is a domestic itinerary with short driving legs, step-free or lift-served rooms, fixed rest slots and darshan timed for quieter hours. It keeps one main sight per day and drops anything that needs long climbs or standing in queues for hours.
Gujarat senior citizen tour package: the short answer
This six-night route runs Ahmedabad, Statue of Unity, Modhera, Dwarka and Somnath, then back to Ahmedabad. It is meant for couples and older travellers who want pilgrimage and heritage stops at a slow pace. The price starts at Rs.19,000 per person on twin sharing, land only, and November to February is the most comfortable season.
If you want to compare this route with other circuits in the state, the Gujarat tour packages page lists the full set.
| Detail | This trip |
|---|---|
| Duration | 6 nights, 7 days |
| Price | Rs.19,000 per person, land only, twin sharing |
| Traveller type | Couples and older travellers |
| Stay category | Standard 3-4 star hotels |
| Main stops | Sabarmati Riverfront, Statue of Unity, Modhera Sun Temple, Dwarka, Somnath |
| Easiest season | November to February |
Comfort and mobility on the route
Daily driving is kept manageable, and every long leg has planned tea and lunch halts. The two longest drives are Day 4 (about 6 to 7 hours to Dwarka) and Day 7 (about 6 to 7 hours back to Ahmedabad). Day 6 has no long driving at all.
- Most temple and riverfront approaches are flat, with a few steps at the main halls of Dwarkadhish Temple and the Modhera Sun Temple. Exact step counts and ramp or wheelchair availability are to be confirmed at booking.
- The Statue of Unity viewing gallery is reached by lift.
- Ground-floor or lift-served rooms are requested at the time of booking, not on arrival.
- Stops you can skip without losing the trip: the Sabarmati Riverfront walk on Day 1, the Statue of Unity evening viewing point on Day 2, the Dwarka evening aarti on Day 4, Nageshwar Jyotirlinga on Day 5, and the Bhalka Tirth and Triveni Sangam drive on Day 6.
Senior travellers usually ask two things: how much standing is involved, and where the nearest hospital is. Ahmedabad has multi-speciality hospitals. Dwarka and Somnath have district-level facilities, so share your medical needs and the coordinator will note the nearest stop on each driving day.
What makes this journey distinctive?
The thread here is the western Gujarat temple circuit, with sun, sea and river sites on one line. Modhera's Sun Temple, Dwarkadhish Temple and Somnath Mahadev Temple each sit on a different tradition, and the Sabarmati Ashram and the Statue of Unity add the modern-history side.
The trade-off is real. You will not see Asiatic lions in Gir or the salt marshes of Kutch on this trip. What you get is unhurried time at three major temples, plus the Statue of Unity and the riverfront in Ahmedabad.
Places and what to know
- Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad: a flat paved promenade, suited to a short evening walk of about 20-30 minutes.
- Sabarmati Ashram: Mahatma Gandhi's riverside home, with mostly flat grounds; allow about 90 minutes.
- Statue of Unity: the viewing gallery is lift-served; wheelchair availability is to be confirmed at booking.
- Modhera Sun Temple and stepwell: flat stone paving with a few steps at the main hall; evening light is softer and cooler.
- Dwarkadhish Temple, Dwarka: quieter before 9 AM; there are steps near the entry.
- Somnath Mahadev Temple: a coastal Jyotirlinga with an evening aarti; confirm ramp and wheelchair arrangements beforehand.
Etiquette, timings and access
Cover shoulders and knees at every temple, and carry a light shawl or dupatta. Footwear comes off outside each sanctum, so slip-on shoes are easier. Photography rules differ by site and are often restricted inside sanctums, so ask the coordinator before you take out a camera.
Darshan and aarti timings vary by temple and day, and they can change on festival days. Specific timings are to be confirmed at booking. Early morning is usually quieter and the floors are drier, which matters for anyone using a walking stick.
Pace and comfort
Each day carries one main sight and at most one lighter stop. Mornings go to darshan or sightseeing, afternoons to rest, and evenings stay optional. Tea halts are planned about every 90 minutes on long drives.
Keep a printed medicine list and your doctor's phone number with you. Pharmacies in smaller towns may not read English prescriptions. Gujarati is the main regional language, and Hindi and English are used in tourist settings.
Local food and shopping
Gujarati meals are largely vegetarian, so vegetarian travellers are well served at hotels and on the road. Expect thali meals with dal, kadhi, rotli and seasonal sabzi, along with dhokla, khandvi and thepla at breakfast. Jain and no-onion-no-garlic requests should be made at booking.
For shopping, look for Gujarat textiles and handicrafts in Ahmedabad and near the temples. Bhuj is the main base for Kutch crafts, but it is not on this route.
Where you will stay in Ahmedabad, Modhera, Dwarka and Somnath
This package uses standard 3-4 star hotels. Rooms are requested on the ground floor or in lift-served blocks. Hotel names are confirmed at booking.
| Stay tier | Indicative price per person |
|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | approx Rs.14,500 |
| Standard 4-star (this package) | Rs.19,000 |
| Premium 5-star | approx Rs.30,500 |
These are indicative figures for comparison. Final cost moves with season, room category and add-ons, so ask for a written quote listing inclusions before paying an advance. January and February are the busiest and most expensive months.
Getting to Gujarat and moving between stops
Ahmedabad is Gujarat's main air and rail hub, so this trip starts and ends there. Rail links run through Ahmedabad Junction, and national highways including NH48 connect Gujarat with Mumbai and northern India. Travel between towns is by private air-conditioned car.
Road conditions are usually fine in the cooler months, but July to September rain can slow driving and make temple floors slippery. Mobile connectivity is generally available in the towns on this route, though signal can dip on highway stretches. Exact transfer times, entry rules and any permits are to be confirmed at booking.
November to February is the most comfortable window, at about 10-30°C with low rain. April to June can cross 40°C and is not advised for seniors. Send your preferred season and group details and we will confirm access and timings before quoting.

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
