A closer look at this 8-night journey through Greece— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Greece family holiday with Athens and Crete?
This Greece family tour package covers eight nights split between Athens and Crete: three nights in the capital for the Acropolis and old-town walks, then four nights on the island for beaches and the Cretaquarium, and a final night back in Athens. Hotels are in the Standard 3-4 Star category.
The route has only two internal moves, Athens to Crete and back. Roughly every third day has a free afternoon, so children can swim and grandparents can rest without feeling they are missing the plan.
Is Greece good for a family holiday from India?
Yes. Athens is Greece's main international arrival hub, ferries and domestic flights connect it to the islands, and cards are widely accepted in cities and established tourist businesses. Crete adds larger beach hotels and more food choices than the smaller islands, which helps when you are feeding children and elders three times a day.
Chania and Heraklion are both practical bases on Crete for visitors relying on buses and ferries, so a family does not need to hire a car to get around. One thing to expect: road conditions and signage differ between the mainland and the islands, so we plan transfers with a driver rather than self-drive.
When is the best time to visit Greece from India for this route?
April to early June and September to early October suit this itinerary best. Temperatures run about 15-25 C in May and 19-29 C in September, with crowds and prices a notch below the summer peak. The table below gives the monthly picture as of 2026.
| Month | Temperature range | Crowds and prices | Fit for this family trip |
|---|---|---|---|
| April | 10-20 C | Medium | Good for Athens, sea still cool |
| May | 15-25 C | Medium | Very good, warm and calm |
| June | 20-30 C | High, peak prices | Good, plan sightseeing for mornings |
| July-August | 23-33 C | High, peak prices | Hot, intense heat for elders |
| September | 19-29 C | High | Very good, warm sea |
| October | 15-23 C | Medium | Good early on, island services start reducing |
Late October through winter is not ideal for a beach-led trip. Island ferry schedules and hotels reduce operations or close, so Crete can feel half shut.
What does a Greece trip cost beyond the package price?
The Rs.73,500 per person covers land arrangements on twin sharing and excludes international flights. Daily spending on meals and local transport is separate. The figures below are indicative and were listed in a 2026 travel-cost source.
- Souvlaki or gyro: about €3-5 per portion
- Casual taverna meal with a main, salad and drink: about €15-25 per person
- Basic local transport: about €5-10 per day
- Short Cycladic ferry hop: about €20-40, if you add an island day
- Longer or high-speed ferry routes: about €80-120 per person one way
Athens and Thessaloniki raised the penalty for travelling without a valid public transport ticket in May 2026, from roughly €72 to €100 (reduced-fare penalty €50). Validate every ticket, including children's tickets where required. You can compare dates and room types on our Greece tour packages page before fixing a departure.
Plan your Greece holiday: tips for families
Plan around heat, footwear and ticket validation. These Greece travel tips apply to this route, and the Acropolis and the beach need slightly different preparation.
- Carry hats, sunscreen and a refillable bottle for each person, especially from June to September.
- Wear closed shoes with grip on the Acropolis, where the marble paths are polished and slippery.
- Keep passports, visa copies and hotel vouchers in one folder for check-ins and ferry boarding.
- Carry prescription medicines in original packaging with a doctor's note.
- Keep small euro notes for taverna tips and kiosk snacks, as smaller venues may not take cards.
Share how many adults and children are travelling and their ages, and we will adjust rooms, pace and activities.

FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
