Package overview
The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 8-night journey through Austria— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Austria family holiday cover?
This trip uses two bases: four nights in Innsbruck for the Nordkette cable car and easy Tyrolean valley walks, then four nights in Vienna for Schönbrunn Palace, the museum district and coffee houses. The family unpacks only twice, with one rail transfer in between.
Innsbruck Airport is about 15 minutes from Innsbruck Hauptbahnhof by bus F. In Vienna, the City Airport Train reaches Wien Mitte in 16 minutes, and the S7 regional line takes 25 minutes. Days carry two or three activities, never six. Mornings start after a proper breakfast, afternoons leave room for a nap, and dinners are early enough for young children.
Inclusions and exclusions
The Rs.1,12,500 per person price covers standard 3-4 star hotels on twin sharing, daily breakfast, the Innsbruck to Vienna train, airport transfers and the main entries listed in the inclusions above. Flights, visa fee, insurance, most lunches and dinners, and optional activities are excluded. Anything we cannot confirm today is marked as to be confirmed at booking.
Kid and elder logistics
Transfers are kept short, and we ask for family or triple rooms so children and grandparents stay close. Hotel lifts and step-free entrances are checked at booking for anyone using a stroller or wheelchair. On the four-hour Innsbruck to Vienna train, carry snacks, water and a small activity pack, and book seats together. Rest stops are built into every longer drive.
Why this works for families
Innsbruck is compact and walkable, with the Nordkette cable car leaving from the city itself. Vienna adds a palace, gardens and museums that suit a slow, seated pace for grandparents. Both cities have vegetarian options and Indian restaurants, and we confirm specific places at booking.
The Innsbruck to Vienna leg is a direct train of roughly four hours, which is far easier with children than a long road day. For route options beyond this trip, read the Austria travel guide before finalising dates.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets something of its own, so nobody is only tagging along.
Younger children
- Nordkette cable car ride from Innsbruck
- Running space in the Schönbrunn gardens
- Optional Alpine zoo visit on a free day
Teenagers
- Upper Nordkette station for mountain views
- Hofburg imperial apartments and St. Stephen's Cathedral
- Optional standing tickets at the Vienna State Opera
Grandparents
- Flat valley trail and a mountain-hut lunch
- Coffee-house stop in Vienna
- Seated palace tour on the shorter route
Pace, rest and logistics
Each day carries two or three activities, with the morning start after breakfast and the afternoon kept loose for a nap or hotel break. Drives stay under about 45 minutes, and the only long leg is the four-hour direct train. Walking distances in the old towns are short, and a pushchair works on most central routes. Free days fall on Day 4 and Day 8.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Rooms are in standard 3-4 star hotels; family or triple rooms and connecting rooms are requested where the hotel offers them, and confirmed at booking. Breakfast is included daily. Vegetarian meals are easy to find in both cities, and children usually accept pasta, soup and cheese dishes. Jain food needs advance notice, so tell us before travel.
Travelling with kids and elders: five tips
- Carry passports for every child; a child needs their own passport and visa application.
- Pack layers even in summer, as temperatures drop above the valley floor.
- Take regular medicines with prescriptions, and buy travel insurance with medical cover.
- Reserve rail seats early for July and August, and keep the family in one coach.
- Dial 112 for any emergency in Austria. A mobility tax of EUR 0.50 per person per night for guests aged 15 and over was reported for 2026, and hotels usually collect it directly.
Where you stay in Innsbruck and Vienna
Four nights go to a central Innsbruck hotel and four to a central Vienna hotel, so the family unpacks only twice. The table shows indicative per-person tiers for the same 8 nights, as of 2026. Final figures depend on travel month and room type, so confirm at booking.
| Stay category | Indicative price per person (land only, twin sharing) | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.84,500 | Families watching costs; walking distance to sights not guaranteed |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.1,12,500 | Most families with children and grandparents |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.1,80,000 | Families wanting larger rooms and central locations |
Visa, money and flights for Indian travellers to Austria
Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa for Austria; apply through the official Austrian visa application route and check the official portal for the current fee. The currency is the euro, and we do not quote an exchange rate here. Flights from major Indian cities to Vienna or Innsbruck usually involve one stop, so confirm timings when you book. The Austria visa for Indians guide covers documents and timelines.
Best time to visit Austria from India
May, June and September give the most comfortable family weather, at roughly 14 to 24 C with medium crowds in May and September. July and August reach 20 to 27 C but are peak season, so cable cars and Schönbrunn Palace get busier, and thunderstorms can hit Alpine valleys.
December brings snow and Christmas markets, but cold mornings and early darkness are harder with toddlers. November is quieter and cheaper but colder, with fog affecting travel. The best time to visit Austria guide has month-wise detail. Compare all routes on the Austria tour packages page.
Share how many adults and children are travelling and their ages, and we will adjust rooms, pace and activities.

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
