Package overview
The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 7-night journey through Austria— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Austria honeymoon tour package include?
The package covers 7 nights across Salzburg and the Hallstatt area, a private airport transfer, rail between the two bases, daily breakfast, two dinners for two and a guided old-town walk. Flights are not included. Starting price is Rs.1,10,500 per person on twin sharing.
The route is short on purpose: three nights in Salzburg, three in Hallstatt or a nearby village, and a last night back in Salzburg so departure day stays easy. The only early start is the morning you pick for the Hallstatt viewpoint. If you want to see how this compares with longer routes, browse our Austria tour packages.
Why does this route suit a honeymoon?
Salzburg and Hallstatt together give a walkable historic city and a quiet lake village, about two and a half hours apart by train. You unpack twice, not five times, and most days have no long transfers.
Salzburg's centre is compact, with Mozart's Birthplace on Getreidegasse and Hohensalzburg Fortress within walking distance of most central hotels. Hallstatt is small enough to cover on foot in an afternoon, which leaves the rest of the day free. That mix of city evenings and lake mornings is the main reason couples pick this pair over a longer multi-city tour.
When is the best time to visit Austria from India?
June and September are the strongest months for a couple's trip, with milder crowds than July and August. Valley temperatures run 18 to 24 C in June and 15 to 21 C in September.
May and October are cooler and quieter, at 14 to 21 C and 10 to 15 C. July and August reach 20 to 27 C but bring peak prices, high crowds and afternoon thunderstorms in Alpine valleys. December to February is cold with reliable snow, suited to couples who want Christmas markets rather than lake walks. Our best time to visit Austria guide has the month-by-month detail.
How much does an Austria trip cost for two?
The package costs Rs.1,10,500 per person on twin sharing, and the total for two is double that before airfare. Flights, visa fee, travel insurance, most lunches and personal spending are extra. Confirm current prices at booking.
Three things move the price: hotel category, travel month and add-ons. A budget 3-star version of this route is around Rs.83,000 per person, and a premium 5-star version is around Rs.1,77,000 per person, both indicative. Hallstatt rooms cost more in season, which is why staying in Obertraun or Bad Goisern can lower the bill. Austria also reported a 2026 mobility tax of €0.50 per person per night for guests aged 15 and over, scheduled to rise to €1.10 from May 2027.
| Stay tier | Hotel category | Indicative price per person, twin sharing, land only |
|---|---|---|
| Budget | 3-star | Approx Rs.83,000 |
| Standard (this package) | 3-4 star | Rs.1,10,500 |
| Premium | 5-star | Approx Rs.1,77,000 |
Moments to plan around
Four moments are worth fixing before anything else: the first Salzburg evening, a sunrise at Hallstatt, a long lake-fish lunch and the farewell dinner. Each has a best day on this route, and the rest of the schedule bends around them.
- First evening by the river (Day 1): walk to the Salzach after check-in and look up at Hohensalzburg Fortress.
- Sunrise over the lake (Day 5): go up early, before the day visitors arrive by ferry and bus. Hallstatt has peak-period visitor controls, so early is also easier.
- Lake fish lunch (Day 6): the one day with no transfer, so lunch can run long.
- Farewell dinner (Day 7): back in Salzburg, ideally a table with the fortress in view.
Why this suits couples
The trip works for couples because privacy is built into the format: no group, no shared coach and no fixed dinner table. Private transfers handle arrival and departure, and the rest of each day is yours.
The setting helps too. Salzburg is compact enough to cross on foot, and Hallstatt's lakefront is small and calm in the evening once day visitors leave. Staying overnight, rather than visiting for a few hours, is what gives you the quiet side of the village. Pace is slow by design, with two days kept free of fixed plans.
Romantic highlights on this route
Six experiences carry the romance of the trip. Each is a named place with one practical detail.
- Sunrise at the Hallstatt Skywalk, reached by the Salzbergbahn funicular, before the first tour groups arrive.
- A private boat ride on Hallstatter See, about 40 minutes, with the Dachstein mountains behind you.
- Coffee and cake at a traditional Salzburg coffee house near Getreidegasse, a short walk from Mozart's Birthplace.
- A dinner for two in Salzburg's old town, booked as a private table rather than a shared one.
- An evening walk across the Makartsteg bridge over the Salzach, followed by a stroll to Mirabell Palace and its gardens.
- A long lunch of fresh lake fish in the Salzkammergut, the lakeside food experience the region is known for.
How the days flow
Mornings carry the one fixed activity of the day, afternoons are mostly open and evenings are left for dinner at your own pace. No day involves more than about three hours of travel.
Day 3 in Salzburg and Day 6 in the Hallstatt area have no plan at all. Use them to sleep in, repeat a favourite walk or take a spontaneous boat trip. Late checkouts are easy to ask for on the days you stay put. Travel days, Day 4 and Day 7, are kept light, with check-in and a lakefront or old-town walk, not a full sightseeing list.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the view and the setting matter more than room size. In Hallstatt, a lake-facing room with a balcony is the one worth asking for. In Salzburg, a higher floor facing the fortress or the river makes a visible difference.
Privacy is the second factor. Smaller guesthouses in Hallstatt, or in nearby Obertraun (about 10 minutes by car) and Bad Goisern (about 15 minutes), tend to be quieter and better value than lakefront rooms in peak months. In Salzburg, the right-bank Neustadt area is a few minutes' walk from the main sights and generally cheaper than the old town. Access also matters: Hallstatt's lanes are steep and some properties involve stairs, so mention mobility needs at booking.
Best months for a couple's trip
Late May, June and September give the best balance for a honeymoon. The table below shows how the trip changes through the year.
| Season | Temperature range | Crowds and prices | What it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Spring (March-May) | 4 to 21 C | Medium crowds, medium prices | Quieter lake walks and lower rates |
| Summer (June-August) | 18 to 27 C | High crowds, peak prices | Long daylight and lake time; thunderstorms possible in July and August |
| Autumn (September-November) | 4 to 21 C | Medium, then low in November | Mild September, cooler and quieter later; fog can affect travel |
| Winter (December-February) | -1 to 5 C | High crowds, peak prices | Snow and festive markets; mountain roads can close |
Add-ons worth considering
Four add-ons suit a honeymoon on this route: a photographer, a spa session, a private dinner and a lake cruise. All are priced separately, so confirm each at booking.
- Photographer in Hallstatt: two hours of couple portraits, best on Day 5 morning when light is soft and crowds are thin.
- Spa afternoon: fits the free days, Day 3 in Salzburg or Day 6 near the lake.
- Private terrace dinner: arranged through the hotel, best for the Day 7 farewell night.
- Sunset lake cruise: about an hour on Hallstatter See, works on Day 4 or Day 5.
- Wachau wine tasting: Grüner Veltliner tasting is a known Wachau experience, but it needs an extra night, so raise it before booking.
Where you stay: Salzburg, Hallstatt and nearby villages
The route uses three nights in Salzburg, three in Hallstatt or a nearby village, and a final night in Salzburg. The default is standard 3-4 star at Rs.1,10,500 per person. All three tiers below are indicative, per person, on twin sharing.
- Budget 3-star (approx Rs.83,000): simpler guesthouses, often in Obertraun or Bad Goisern instead of Hallstatt itself, with the Salzburg stay on the right bank.
- Standard 3-4 star (Rs.1,10,500): clean, well-located rooms with breakfast, in the old town or close to it, and a Hallstatt or nearby-village base.
- Premium 5-star (approx Rs.1,77,000): larger rooms, lake or fortress views and on-site dining or spa. One named luxury property exists in Hallstatt, but availability moves with the season, so we confirm at booking.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Austria
Indian passport holders need a Schengen short-stay visa for Austria, applied for through the Austrian embassy or its authorised visa centre in India. Check the official portal for the current fee and processing time, and apply well before your travel dates. Our Austria visa for Indians page lists the document checklist.
The local currency is the euro. Carry a card and some cash for small cafes and ferries, and check live rates before you travel. Flights from India to Vienna or Salzburg, usually with one stop, are not part of this package, so book them once the visa is confirmed. Vienna is the main intercontinental gateway; Salzburg Airport is a 20-minute bus ride from Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. Our Austria travel guide covers the wider planning steps.

FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
