Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Andaman family holiday cover?
The plan covers seven days across Sri Vijaya Puram, Ross Island, North Bay, Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep, with a free afternoon built in so nobody is rushed. Most days have one main outing, mornings start around 8 am and dinners are early.
Ross Island is a short ferry ride from Sri Vijaya Puram and is done on foot. The paths are shaded and pass ruins from the old settlement, with deer and peacocks around. North Bay is the water stop, and the glass-bottom boat ride lets non-swimmers watch reef fish without getting wet. Both are day trips, so the family sleeps in the same hotel that night.
Later in the week the group crosses to Swaraj Dweep for Radhanagar Beach and Elephant Beach, then makes a short stop at Shaheed Dweep before returning to Sri Vijaya Puram for the flight home.
Why does this route work for children and grandparents?
This route keeps boat hops short and avoids more than one major transfer on any day. That matters when you are carrying a stroller, a grandparent's medicines or a child who gets motion sick.
- Ross Island and North Bay are reached by boat from Sri Vijaya Puram, so there is no hotel change on those days.
- The glass-bottom boat needs no swimming ability, subject to the operator's minimum age, which we confirm at booking.
- Beach time at Corbyn's Cove and Radhanagar can be cut short if anyone tires.
- Day 5 afternoon is left free, and Day 2 has a rest window after the heritage visits.
- Dinners are at the hotel on most nights, so food stays predictable for fussy eaters.
When is the best time to visit Andaman ?
October to March is the better window, with 22-30 C days, lower rainfall and generally favourable sea conditions, according to the climate data we use. November to February is peak season, so book ferries and rooms early.
April and May turn warmer and more humid with rising showers. June to September is monsoon, with heavy rain, rough seas and possible ferry disruption, so this itinerary is best avoided then. The best time to visit Andaman guide has month-by-month detail if your dates are still open.
| Season | Months | What families should expect |
|---|---|---|
| Dry or peak | October to March | Pleasant weather, clearer skies, steadier seas, higher prices and crowds |
| Warm shoulder | April to May | Hotter, humid, more showers, fewer visitors |
| Monsoon | June to September | Heavy rain, rough seas, activity and ferry disruption possible |
What drives the Andaman trip cost?
The Rs.35,000 per person figure is land only, on twin sharing, with flights excluded. Hotel category, ferry class and travel dates move the number most.
| Stay tier | Indicative price per person | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.26,500 | Simpler rooms, fewer facilities |
| Standard 3-4 star (this plan) | Rs.35,000 | Comfortable rooms, hotel dinners, easy access |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.56,000 | Larger rooms, more on-site facilities |
These tiers are indicative and change with dates. Peak months from November to February carry higher hotel rates. Snorkelling and other optional water activities are paid separately unless listed in your inclusions. For other island formats, see our Andaman tour packages.
Andaman travel tips for a family trip
Carry printed ferry tickets, keep one buffer day before your return flight and check sea conditions each morning. Ferry services are the main links between islands, so a cancelled sailing can shift a whole day.
- Pack light cotton clothes, a rain jacket and non-slip sandals for boat jetties.
- Carry enough regular medicines for the full trip plus two extra days.
- Keep sun cream, hats and a basic first-aid kit in the day bag.
- Download offline maps, as mobile connectivity can be patchy on the smaller islands.
Kid and elder logistics
Seating, room layout and pace are planned around the slowest walker in the group. Tell us ages and mobility needs at booking so we can match vehicles and rooms.
- Private air-conditioned vehicle for all land transfers, with seats arranged so elders sit up front.
- Ferry jetties involve steps and uneven boards. Wheelchair and stroller access is limited on Ross Island paths and jetties, so plan for carrying or assistance.
- Ground-floor or lift-access rooms can be requested, subject to availability at booking.
- Long drives are avoided. Keep water, biscuits and fruit in the vehicle for small stops.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets at least one activity that suits it, and most are done together so the family stays in one place.
Younger children
- Glass-bottom boat ride at North Bay
- Spotting deer and peacocks on Ross Island
- Shallow-water play at Radhanagar Beach
Teenagers
- Snorkelling at Elephant Beach, paid separately
- Cellular Jail history and the light and sound show
- Optional scooter ride on Swaraj Dweep with a licensed adult
Grandparents
- Cellular Jail, the Anthropological Museum and Chatham Saw Mill at a slow pace
- Sunset sitting time at Radhanagar Beach
- Marina Park walk on the first evening
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
Days start around 8 am, with the main outing done by early afternoon and a rest window after lunch. Ferry days are the longest, but there is only one crossing in each direction.
- Day 3 is the busiest day, with two boat trips, and it ends early.
- Day 5 afternoon is completely free for naps, pool time or a short walk.
- Road drives on the islands are short, and the plan never needs a child to sit in a vehicle for long stretches.
If the sea is rough on a ferry day, we swap days around rather than push the group out.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Hotels are standard 3-4 star, and family rooms or two connecting rooms are the usual options, depending on availability. Triple-sharing or an extra bed for a child can be added at booking, with the charge confirmed then.
Vegetarian meals are easy to get at hotels and most restaurants in Sri Vijaya Puram and on Swaraj Dweep. Child-friendly food such as rice, dal, roti and plain noodles is widely available. Jain food needs advance notice, so mention it when you book.
Travelling with kids and elders: five practical tips
- Carry a government photo ID for every adult and a birth certificate or school ID for each child, as ferries and some sites check IDs.
- Take regular medicines in labelled strips, along with the prescription copy.
- Keep a light rain jacket handy even in dry months, as short showers can pass through.
- Avoid water activities on any day the sea is flagged rough or unpredictable.
- Keep sun protection, caps and electrolyte sachets in the day bag.
Where you stay on this Andaman route
Four nights are in Sri Vijaya Puram and two nights on Swaraj Dweep, so there are only two hotel changes. All stays are standard 3-4 star on twin sharing, with exact property confirmed at booking.
- Sri Vijaya Puram: city hotel close to the jetty and Cellular Jail, so morning boats and evening shows need little driving.
- Swaraj Dweep: beach-side hotel with easy access to Radhanagar and the Elephant Beach boat point.
Premium 5-star rooms are available at about Rs.56,000 per person, and a budget 3-star version at about Rs.26,500, both indicative and subject to dates.
Getting to the Andaman Islands and moving around
Air is the usual way in, landing at Sri Vijaya Puram airport. Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata have nonstop flights of roughly 2 to 4 hours as of October 2026. Ahmedabad, Pune and Kochi need a connection, taking about 5 to 12 hours in total. Passenger ships from the mainland also run, but take far longer.
Between islands, government and private ferries link Sri Vijaya Puram, Swaraj Dweep and Shaheed Dweep. Private operators are faster. Mobile networks can be patchy on the smaller islands. Confirm ferry class and timings at booking. The Andaman travel guide explains routes in more detail.
Tell us who is joining the trip, from toddlers to grandparents, and we will tune the plan for everyone.

FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
