6D/5N Kerala Family Holiday Package
Starting from
₹65,000/ person
Kerala family packages are domestic holiday itineraries built around shared time rather than long sightseeing days, and they suit mixed ages better than most Indian destinations. Kerala family packages usually pair a backwater stretch with a hill station and a heritage town, with private transfers and rooms that sleep three or four. Most families find a 3-night trip the easiest starting point, with the dry season from October to March the most comfortable window.
Kerala family packages suit parents with young children and grandparents who prefer shorter drives. Land-only arrangements start at Rs.50,000 per person in 2026, and the final figure depends on room type and season. For the wider range of options, see our Kerala tour packages hub.
Kerala works because the main places sit close together. Kochi, Alappuzha and Kumarakom are a few hours apart, so you are not packing and unpacking every day. Houseboat stays keep everyone in one place, and the crew handles meals while children watch the water.
Food is another reason. Rice, appam, stew, dosa and fresh fish are mild enough for children, and most hotels will reduce the spice on request. Fort Kochi's heritage district is free to explore on foot, which makes an easy half-day with grandparents.
The honest limit is the monsoon. From June to September rain is heavy, seas turn rough and beach swimming is usually unavailable. Munnar's roads are also winding, which can bother anyone prone to motion sickness.
Eravikulam does not allow private vehicles inside the park, so plan the transfer to the gate in advance. Entry runs from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the park closes at 6:00 pm.
Plan one main activity in the morning and a quiet afternoon. A realistic day is a 9:00 am start, two to three hours out, lunch back at the hotel, and free time until evening.
The longest transfer on a standard circuit is the drive into Munnar, which takes most of a morning. Break it with a tea stop. Backwater drives are shorter, and the Kochi to Alappuzha road is comfortable in a single stretch.
Keep one full rest day in every four. Children settle better, and elders recover from early starts.
Ask for two beds or a connecting pair rather than one large bed. Houseboats have limited floor space, so confirm the cabin layout before you book.
Strollers work in Fort Kochi and hotel grounds, but not on houseboat decks or forest trails. Wheelchair access is limited at Eravikulam and Periyar, so check the route with us before confirming.
On longer drives, carry water, biscuits and a light shawl. Most drivers will stop for a tea break if you ask at the start of the day.
| Duration | Route in words | Daily pace | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 nights | Kochi with a backwater day | Relaxed, one activity a day | First family trip, young children |
| 4 nights | Kochi, Alappuzha houseboat, Kumarakom | Moderate, one transfer | Mixed ages, grandparents |
| 5 nights | Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady | Moderate, two longer drives | Teenagers, active families |
| 6 nights | Kochi, Munnar, Thekkady, backwaters | Steady, one rest day included | Families with time to spare |
Shorter routes keep transfers low. Longer ones add the hills, which means more road time.
Land-only Kerala family packages start at Rs.50,000 per person. That covers stays, private transfers and listed activities, and it moves with room category, season and the number of nights added.
December to February is peak season, so prices are highest. April to September is low season, and rates ease even though rain is heavy.
Child pricing depends on age and whether a bed is shared. We confirm the exact child rate at booking, since hotels apply their own rules.
Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram have airports, and Kochi is the usual entry point for a family circuit. Trains connect the main towns, but a private car is simpler with children and luggage.
Entry for Indian travellers on the standard routes does not need special permits. Eravikulam requires a park entry ticket, and current fees should be confirmed at booking.
Munnar sits at altitude, so evenings are cooler than on the coast. Carry a light jacket. Monsoon road conditions can slow hill drives, so keep buffers in the plan.
