Why this route works
What does this Thailand adventure itinerary cover?
This trip covers six days across Chiang Mai in the north and the Krabi and Phang Nga coast in the south. It combines an elephant sanctuary day, a rainforest trail, kayaking and canoeing, with one internal flight between the two regions.
Activity time is kept to a morning or a single long day, so evenings stay free. In the north you spend one full day at a sanctuary near Chiang Mai. In the south you walk the rainforest trails at Khao Phanom Bencha National Park, kayak at Klong Root, and canoe through Phang Nga Bay. Day 1 and Day 6 are arrival and departure days.
Distances are short by design. Most transfers are under two hours, so you spend your energy on the activities and not on the road.
What makes this Thailand adventure tour package different from a standard holiday?
Most Thailand packages move between temples, markets and beach resorts. This one puts a guided outdoor activity at the centre of every full day, with a safety briefing before each one. Evenings are free, and you get city time in Chiang Mai and a beach base in Krabi.
- Guided activities on four of six days: sanctuary, rainforest trail, kayaking and canoeing.
- Rest built in: Day 4 afternoon and every evening are unscheduled.
- One flight, no long overland day: the move from north to south is by air.
- Honest effort level: moderate walking and paddling, no technical climbing.
If you want a spa-led or shopping-led Thailand holiday, this is not the right trip. If you are comfortable on your feet for a few hours at a time, it fits well.
The signature day: Phang Nga Bay canoeing
The signature day is a full-day boat trip into Phang Nga Bay on Day 5, with canoeing through sea caves and lagoons. Expect an early pickup, a cruise to the paddling stops and a return to Krabi by late afternoon.
You wear a life jacket for the whole day. A local paddler or guide handles steering in the caves, so you do not need paddling experience. The operator should run a safety briefing before boarding, and the boat crew decides on the day whether tide and weather allow entry to the caves.
The Andaman coast, which includes Phang Nga and Krabi, can receive heavy storms from April to October. If the sea is rough or marine sites are closed, the day is rescheduled or replaced with a land-based activity. Exact operator details and the cut-off rules are confirmed at booking.
Who is this Thailand trip for?
This trip is for travellers who can walk for two to three hours on uneven ground and spend a few hours in a canoe. No prior trekking or paddling experience is needed, but a basic level of fitness is.
- Fitness: comfortable with a 2-3 hour walk and a day of light paddling.
- Swimming: not mandatory, since life jackets are worn on the water, but tell your guide if you are nervous around deep water.
- Minimum age: confirm at booking, as sanctuary and canoeing operators set their own limits.
- Better to choose an easier route if: you have knee, back or heart conditions, or you are recovering from an injury.
Couples, friends and small groups all work well. Solo travellers can join on twin sharing or pay a single supplement.
What will you do on this trip?
This trip includes six named activities across four activity days. Each one is guided, and durations below are approximate and finalised at booking.
- Chiang Mai elephant sanctuary: prepare food, feed the herd and walk with them to the river, over a full day.
- Khao Phanom Bencha National Park trail: a guided rainforest walk near Krabi, roughly 2-3 hours.
- Klong Root kayaking: a guided morning session with paddles and life jackets provided.
- Phang Nga Bay canoeing: a full-day boat trip with canoe stops at sea caves and lagoons.
- Chiang Mai Old City evening: a short walk and night market dinner on arrival.
- Krabi beach time: a free afternoon on Day 4 at the pool or beach.
How hard is each activity?
Effort is low to moderate across the trip, with no technical climbing or open-water swimming required. The table below shows what to expect. Anything not verified is marked to confirm at booking.
| Activity | Effort level | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Elephant sanctuary day, Chiang Mai | Low to moderate (walking, feeding, mud work) | Full day, about 6-7 hours on site; confirm at booking |
| Rainforest trail, Khao Phanom Bencha National Park | Moderate (uneven, sometimes wet ground) | About 2-3 hours |
| Kayaking at Klong Root | Low to moderate (flat-water paddling) | Morning session; confirm at booking |
| Phang Nga Bay canoeing | Low to moderate (guided, with paddler) | Full day, early start to late afternoon |
Weather, safety and what happens if plans change
Weather decides whether trails and marine sites run on the day. Heavy monsoon rain can cause flash floods, rough seas and temporary closures of trails or marine sites, according to Thailand's official tourism and government sources.
- Cool season (mid-October to February): milder conditions and lower rainfall across most of Thailand.
- Hot season (mid-February to mid-May): temperatures rise, and April is the hottest month.
- Monsoon (mid-May to mid-October): August and September are among the wettest months.
- Andaman coast: heavy storms are possible from April to October.
There is no high altitude on this route, so acclimatisation is not a concern. Guides run a safety briefing before each activity, and life jackets are worn on the water. If an activity is cancelled for weather, we reschedule within the itinerary or substitute a land-based option. Refund terms for unused activities are confirmed at booking.
What to pack and what is provided
Pack light, quick-drying clothing and sun and rain protection. Paddles, life jackets and sanctuary safety gear are provided on the activity days, while personal items are your own.
- Bring: quick-dry clothes, a swimsuit, a small day bag, sunscreen, a hat, insect repellent and a light rain jacket.
- Bring: closed shoes or trail sandals with grip for the rainforest walk, and water shoes if you have them.
- Bring: a dry bag or zip pouches for phone and documents on the boat.
- For temples: clothing that covers shoulders and knees, since temples require modest dress and shoes come off before entering some sacred areas.
- Provided: kayaks, paddles, life jackets and guides on activity days. Confirm any extra gear at booking.
Permits, fees and rules
National park entry and activity fees can change, so confirm them at booking. We do not quote a park fee here because it is not in our verified data.
- National park and sanctuary entry: confirm at booking whether fees are included. Our inclusions list shows what is covered.
- Age and health rules: operators set minimum ages and health limits for the sanctuary and canoeing, so confirm these at booking.
- Waivers: expect to sign an activity waiver before kayaking and canoeing.
- Wildlife rules: follow your guide's instructions around the elephants and keep a safe distance when asked.
Where you stay in Chiang Mai and Krabi
You stay in two bases: a mid-range city hotel in Chiang Mai for two nights and a mid-range beach-side hotel in Krabi for three nights. We describe the category and do not name properties.
The Chiang Mai hotel sits in the Old City area, so you can walk to temples and the night market. The Krabi hotel is a beach-side base with a pool, used as a launch point for Klong Root and the Phang Nga Bay boat. Rooms are twin sharing with air conditioning. Final hotel names are shared with your confirmation.
Thailand entry, money and flights for Indian travellers
Indian passport holders should check the official Thai e-visa portal for the current visa rule and fee before booking, since entry requirements change. Flights from India to Bangkok take about 4.5 hours from Delhi, 4.75 hours from Mumbai, 4.25 hours from Bengaluru, 3.5 hours from Chennai and 2.5 hours from Kolkata, as of 2026.
From Bangkok you connect to Chiang Mai, and you depart from Krabi or Phuket at the end. The local currency is the Thai baht. Check the day's exchange rate with your bank or forex provider, as rates move. Cards work in hotels and larger shops, but carry some baht for markets, tips and small purchases. Keep your passport, return ticket and insurance papers handy at immigration.
What does a Thailand trip cost on this route?
The package costs Rs.43,000 per person on twin sharing, land only, with flights excluded. This is the starting price for 5 nights and 6 days.
Your final Thailand trip cost depends on travel dates, room category, flight fares from your city and any optional extras. Peak-season dates and single supplements raise the total. Ask for a dated quote before you book.
Best time to visit Thailand from India for this trip
The best time is the cool season, mid-October to February, with mild conditions and lower rainfall in most of Thailand. The southern Gulf coast stays wetter into December, but this route uses the Andaman side.
April is the hottest month, which makes the rainforest trail tiring. The southwest monsoon runs from mid-May to mid-October and brings heavy rain, with August and September among the wettest months. Outdoor days run best from November to February.
