Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Bhopal and Sanchi family holiday cover?
This Madhya Pradesh trip is a slow, city-based plan: 5 nights in Bhopal, 2 nights near Sanchi, with Bhimbetka and Udayagiri as day excursions. It is designed for families who want sightseeing without long road days.
Mornings are for sightseeing, afternoons for rest or short activities, and dinners are early so children sleep on time. The longest transfer on the route is under two hours. Day 4 is kept completely free, and Day 7 has only a drive and a relaxed evening.
If you want more of the state later, the full range of Madhya Pradesh tour packages covers other circuits you can add on a separate trip.
Why families pick this route
Families pick this route because the sights are close together, easy to walk and varied enough to keep every age interested. Bhopal has lakes, museums and a drive-through park; Sanchi adds a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Bhopal's lakes: a lakeside walk or a boat ride suits an evening for all ages.
- Sanchi Stupa: a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a flat walking circuit around the monument.
- Bhimbetka: another UNESCO World Heritage Site, with prehistoric rock shelters that interest older children.
- Van Vihar National Park: listed among Madhya Pradesh attractions and easy to enjoy from the vehicle.
Best time to visit Madhya Pradesh for this trip
October to March is the comfortable window for a family trip here. Winter in Madhya Pradesh (October to February) is cool and dry, and March stays mild, so outdoor sightseeing is easy for children and elders.
| Month | Temperature range | What it means for this trip |
|---|---|---|
| October to November | 10-27°C | Dry and pleasant; crowds and prices are at peak |
| December to January | 5-27°C in December, 10-25°C in January | Cold mornings, so carry woollens; peak prices |
| February to March | 10-30°C | Mild and dry; medium crowds and prices |
| April to June | 22-45°C | Very hot in the plains; tiring for children and elders |
| July to September | 22-38°C | Rainy and humid; low prices, but roads and park areas can be affected |
As of 2026, peak months are October to January, so book hotels early if you plan to travel then.
What does a Madhya Pradesh trip cost?
This package costs Rs.25,500 per person on twin sharing, land only, with flights excluded. The price is based on the standard 3-4 star hotel category and covers the stays, transfers and sightseeing listed in the plan.
| Stay category | Indicative price per person |
|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.19,000 |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.25,500 |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.41,000 |
Airfare or train fare, most lunches and dinners, and personal expenses are extra. Child rates depend on age and bedding, so confirm them at booking.
Why this works for families
This plan works because it is built around the slowest traveller in the group. Transfers are short, activities are shared rather than split, and every few days there is a free afternoon.
- Short transfers: no day has a long drive, so children do not get restless and elders do not get tired.
- Shared activities: a lake walk, a stupa visit or a drive-through park can be done together by all ages.
- Early dinners: meals are planned by about 8 pm so younger children keep their sleep routine.
- Rest built in: Day 4 is free and Day 7 is light, so nobody needs a holiday after the holiday.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets something to look forward to, and most of it can be done together.
Younger children
- Van Vihar National Park, seen from the vehicle
- A boat ride on Bhopal's lakes
- Open lawns around the Sanchi Stupa for running around
Teenagers
- Bhimbetka rock shelters and the prehistoric paintings
- The carved gateways at Sanchi, good for photography
- Udayagiri rock-cut caves on Day 6
Grandparents
- Flat walking at Sanchi with seating breaks
- Evening lakeside time in Bhopal
- Late starts and a free day for rest
Pace, rest and daily logistics
The daily rhythm is two sightseeing slots, one rest window after lunch and an early dinner. No day has a long drive, and the two longest transfers are between Bhopal and Sanchi.
Your driver will take a short break on the Bhopal-Sanchi drive for water, snacks and washroom stops. Heritage sites involve some walking on stone paths and uneven ground. If a grandparent finds walking hard, tell us at booking so we can plan shorter circuits and ask about wheelchair access at each site.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Stays are in standard 3-4 star hotels. Family rooms, extra beds or two adjoining rooms are usually available, but the exact arrangement is confirmed at booking.
Vegetarian food is easy to find in Bhopal and around Sanchi, and hotels can usually prepare simple meals for children. Jain meals can be arranged if you tell us in advance. Options near Sanchi are limited, so carry snacks and water on day trips.
Travelling with kids and elders: five tips
- Dress for the season. December and January mornings are cold at 5-10°C lows, so pack light woollens and caps.
- Avoid summer. April and May can reach 45°C in the plains; do not plan this trip then with children or elders.
- Carry ID for everyone. Keep an ID or birth certificate for each child for hotel check-in and monument tickets.
- Pack medicines. Carry regular prescriptions plus basics for fever, cold and stomach upset, as pharmacies are fewer around Sanchi.
- Watch the water. Keep young children close on the lake promenade and use sun protection on open monument grounds.
Where you will stay in Bhopal and near Sanchi
You will stay in standard 3-4 star hotels, five nights in Bhopal and two nights near Sanchi. Bhopal is the state capital and works as a family base for nearby heritage sites, with mid-range pricing. Hotel names are confirmed at booking.
- Bhopal stay: a central standard 3-4 star hotel with easy access to the lakes, museums and restaurants, which keeps evening walks simple.
- Sanchi stay: a standard 3-4 star hotel close to the stupa, so you can start early before the heat builds up.
- Budget tier: a 3-star hotel brings the price down to about Rs.19,000 per person, with fewer facilities.
- Premium tier: a 5-star hotel brings it to about Rs.41,000 per person, with larger rooms and more services.
How to reach Bhopal and move around Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal is one of the state capitals connected by road, rail and air, and it is an important railway junction. Eight major Madhya Pradesh cities, Bhopal among them, were reported as air-connected in January 2026. Fares vary, so check them at booking.
This trip uses a private vehicle for all transfers, so you do not need to manage buses or local taxis. No special permits are needed for the monuments in this plan, though entry tickets apply; confirm the exact rules at booking. Mobile connectivity is generally better in Bhopal than around Bhimbetka and the smaller stretches, so download maps and tickets in advance.
Tell us who is joining the trip, from toddlers to grandparents, and we will tune the plan for everyone.

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
