Journey notes
Why this route works
What sets this Baku honeymoon route apart
This route keeps all five nights in Baku and does not split the trip across Gabala, Sheki or Quba. You unpack once, skip long road transfers and keep your evenings free for the Caspian waterfront.
The trade-off is simple. You see one region well rather than three regions quickly. Couples who want mountain scenery can add a regional leg later; this plan is for people who prefer a relaxed city base.
Two places carry the trip. Icherisheher, the walled Old City, has the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, small galleries and mosques inside a compact walking core. The Caspian waterfront and its boulevard add open sea views and a long promenade, with cafes a short walk from the Old City gates.
One excursion breaks the city rhythm. Gobustan is about 1.5 hours from Baku by road and works as a half-day outing. A second, lighter trip to the Absheron Peninsula fits one afternoon. For a wider look at the country, see our Azerbaijan travel guide.
Moments to plan around
Four moments are worth fixing in your head before you land, each with a best day on the route.
- First look at the Caspian: Day 1 evening, a short walk to the boulevard after check-in, while you are still fresh from the flight.
- Old City at a slow pace: Day 2 morning, starting at the Maiden Tower before the lanes fill up.
- Reserved waterfront dinner for two: Day 3 evening, after the Gobustan drive, when you will want a proper sit-down meal.
- A late, unscheduled morning: Day 4, left open on purpose for a spa slot, a photo session or just a long breakfast.
Why this suits couples
Baku is easy for two people to handle without a group. The centre is walkable, the metro runs from roughly 06:00 to midnight, and ride-hailing apps like Bolt and Uber are reported as working in the city. You can start late, walk after lunch and still get home easily at night.
Local movement is cheap, which leaves more of the budget for dinners. A metro ride is 0.60 AZN, a city bus ride is 0.50 AZN and a Bolt taxi within Baku is typically 3-7 AZN. The airport bus costs 1.30 AZN. Many mid-range and high-end restaurants in Baku add a 10% service fee to the bill automatically, so check the slip before adding a tip.
Romantic highlights
- Maiden Tower climb: a landmark inside the Old City walls, best visited in the first hour of the guided walk.
- Palace of the Shirvanshahs: one of the principal landmarks of Icherisheher, a short walk from the tower.
- Caspian boulevard stroll: a long promenade with open sea on one side and cafes on the other.
- Courtyard cafe stop: tea or coffee inside the Old City on Day 2, away from the main lanes.
- Gobustan outing: a half-day archaeological site visit about 1.5 hours from Baku by road.
- Plov lunch: the national dish of rice, meat, herbs, fruits and spices, ordered at a sit-down table in the Old City.
How the days flow
The pace is deliberately light. Only Day 3 has an early start, for the Gobustan drive; every other day begins after a proper breakfast.
Day 2 is the Old City walk, with free time after lunch. Day 4 has no fixed plan, so it absorbs any spa or photo booking. Day 5 has a short Absheron outing and an early return, which keeps the last evening calm before departure.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the setting matters more than the star rating. Pick a room with a quiet side rather than a street-facing one, and ask whether a view of the Old City walls or the sea is available at your category.
Access is the other point. A hotel inside or beside Baku Old City lets you walk to the main sights and back to rest in the afternoon. Nasimi, near Nizami Street, is a central alternative with easy metro and taxi access. Request a double bed rather than twin beds when you book, and confirm it in writing.
Best months for a couple's trip to Azerbaijan
The best months for a couple to visit Baku are April to June and September to October. Temperatures sit in a comfortable walking range and rain is light in late spring.
| Month | Baku temperature | Rainfall | Crowds and prices |
|---|---|---|---|
| April | 9-20 C | 24-27 mm | Medium crowds, medium prices |
| May | 14-23 C | 14-35 mm | High crowds, medium prices |
| June | 20-30 C | 7-8 mm | High crowds, high prices |
| September | 20-25 C | 23 mm | Medium crowds, medium prices |
| October | 15-20 C | 39 mm | Medium crowds, medium prices |
| November | 10-13 C | 45 mm | Low crowds, low prices |
July and August are hot and dry in Baku at 22-32 C, with peak demand and higher room rates. December to February is cold and windy at 3-9 C. November is the wettest city month, so keep an indoor plan ready. Shoulder-season accommodation is reported as 15-20% cheaper than peak periods, which helps if your dates are flexible. Our best time to visit Azerbaijan guide covers every month.
Add-ons worth considering
- Private dinner: adds a quiet table for two; fits Day 4 or Day 5 evening.
- Couple's spa session: a hotel or city spa slot; fits the open Day 4 morning.
- Photographer: a short shoot in the Old City lanes; fits Day 2 morning when light is soft.
- Caspian cruise: suits warm evenings from May to September; confirm availability and cost at booking.
Book add-ons at least two weeks ahead so slots can be held.
Where you stay in Baku

CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
