Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Turkey family holiday cover?
This itinerary covers Pamukkale and Antalya, the travertine terraces and the Mediterranean coast, over 8 nights with only two hotel changes. Both places run at a slow pace, which is why the route works for mixed age groups.
You fly from India to Istanbul, spend one night there, connect to Denizli for Pamukkale, then drive south to Antalya and stay put for the coastal half. Pamukkale gives you the terraces and the Roman ruins of Hierapolis on the same hill. Antalya adds Kaleiçi old town, the harbour, a boat outing and the beach-and-resort side of Lara. Fewer packing days also means fewer long car transfers with children.
Turkey trip cost: what is included in the price?
The package price is Rs.72,000 per person on twin sharing, land only, with international flights excluded. It is built on standard 3-4 star hotels, daily breakfast and dinner, sightseeing with entrance fees for the sights listed in the plan, and transfers as per the itinerary.
Indicative tiers for context, all per person and land only:
| Stay category | Indicative price per person | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.54,000 | Simpler hotels, usually further from the old town or beach |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.72,000 | Family or connecting rooms where available, breakfast and dinner included |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.1,15,000 | Resort-style stays, larger rooms, more on-site facilities |
Visa charges, lunches, optional activities and personal expenses sit outside the price. For wider route and pricing options, see our Turkey tour packages.
When is the best time to visit Turkey from India?
April, May, early June, September and October suit this route best. Research for Turkey puts April at 12-19 C, May at 16-24 C and October at 17-24 C, with crowds medium to high and prices medium to high.
June to September is hot and dry, with July and August at 24-31 C and peak prices on the coast. November to March is cooler and wetter, with January rainfall around 189 mm, though crowds and prices are low. Families with school-holiday constraints should book early for May and June. Travelling in late September or October keeps the weather warm while avoiding the peak-price weeks.
Why Pamukkale and Antalya work for children and grandparents
The route keeps drives short, meals predictable and evenings early. Most days have one main sight and one easy add-on, and a free afternoon appears every few days.
- Two bases only, so unpacking happens twice in nine days.
- The Pamukkale terraces are walked barefoot on a shallow, gentle slope.
- Antalya has a flat seafront for strollers and slower walkers.
- Boat time replaces long walking days when energy is low.
- Hotel pools give children downtime between sights.
Kid and elder logistics on the road
Families travel in an air-conditioned vehicle sized to the group, with seats allotted so children and grandparents sit near the door and the front. Comfort stops are planned on the Pamukkale to Antalya drive, which is about four hours, so snacks and toilet breaks are never rushed.
Strollers fold into the vehicle boot. Hierapolis has uneven ancient stone, so a lightweight, small-wheeled stroller is easier than a large travel system. Wheelchair access at the terraces is limited, and a multi-generation Istanbul plan in our research notes recommends trams, ferries and private transfers to cut walking on hills. Tell us about mobility needs at booking so we can adjust the day plan.
Highlights by age group
Each age group has its own best moments, and none of them need a separate itinerary.
Younger children
- Wading through the shallow travertine pools at Pamukkale
- A boat ride from the old harbour in Antalya
- Pool and beach time on the free day
Teenagers
- The Hierapolis theatre and the ancient pool area
- Perge, Aspendos and Side, with the Roman theatre as the main draw
- Optional add-ons such as a cable car or aquarium visit
Grandparents
- Sunset viewing at the terraces without long climbs
- The flat Kaleiçi walk and harbour cafes
- Early dinners and a slow Day 8 morning
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
Days start with breakfast around 8 am and finish with dinner by 7 pm. Sightseeing is front-loaded into the morning, when terraces and ruins are cooler and less crowded, and afternoons are kept for rest or pool time.
The longest drive is Pamukkale to Antalya on Day 4, about four hours with a comfort stop. Other transfers are shorter. Day 6 is fully free, and Day 8 is deliberately light so packing does not feel rushed. If a child is unwell or tired, the lighter days can absorb a swap without breaking the plan.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Standard 3-4 star hotels offer family rooms or connecting rooms in general terms, subject to availability at the time of booking. Share your group size and ages early so rooms are confirmed together instead of scattered across floors.
Breakfast and dinner are included. Turkish mezze, lentil soup, salads, rice and vegetable dishes make vegetarian meals manageable, and Jain vegetarian and halal options are available on Turkey tour listings, though Jain meals need advance notice to each hotel. Children usually do well with grilled chicken, rice, bread and plain pasta, all common on hotel menus.
Travelling with kids and elders: five practical tips
- Carry a light jacket for evenings and a scarf for mosque stops, even in summer.
- Pack water shoes for the terraces, since the surface can be slippery and warm.
- Keep original passports and photocopies in separate bags, and carry children's birth certificates.
- Bring regular prescriptions in original packaging, with a short doctor's note for elders.
- Book timed tickets for Istanbul attractions online in advance, as queues tire children quickly.
Where you will stay in Pamukkale and Antalya
Stays are standard 3-4 star hotels, one in Istanbul, one in Pamukkale town and one in Antalya, chosen for access to the main sights and for family-friendly rooms. Hotel names are confirmed at booking.
In Antalya the choice is usually between Kaleiçi old town, which has historic character and walkable lanes, and Lara Beach, which is a beach and resort area better for families who want a pool and sand. The budget tier sits further from the old town or beach. The premium tier moves to larger resort-style properties with more on-site facilities. All three tiers keep the same sightseeing plan, so the difference is room quality, location and facilities.
Visa, money and flights for Indian travellers to Turkey
Indian passport holders need a visa before travel to Turkey. The application route and current fee are on the official government portal, so check it before booking flights, and see our Turkey visa for Indians guide for the steps. The local currency is the Turkish lira, and exchange rates change daily, so confirm the rate at the time of exchange.
Flights from India usually connect through Istanbul. Research as of October 2026 lists about 17 hours from Delhi, 16.8 hours from Mumbai, 16 hours from Bengaluru, 15.75 hours from Chennai, 16.25 hours from Hyderabad and 15.58 hours from Kolkata. Fares are not part of this package, so confirm them with your airline or travel agent.

FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
