Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Norway family tour package?
A Norway family tour package is a ready-made holiday that covers hotels, internal travel and sightseeing, planned around the pace of children and older relatives. This trip pairs Oslo and Bergen, with 3 nights in Oslo and 4 nights in Bergen.
Oslo is a walkable capital with museums and harbourfront space. Bergen is the west-coast city of colourful wooden wharf buildings and mountain viewpoints. A single train day links the two, so you unpack only twice. Mornings start around 9am, afternoons wind down by 5pm and dinners are early. One free afternoon is kept in each city.
Why Bergen and Oslo suit a family route
Bergen and Oslo suit families because you change hotels only once. Travel legs are limited to one long train day and one fjord day trip, which keeps young children and elders comfortable.
Here you get museums, a funicular ride, harbour walks and one fjord day trip from Bergen. That mix is easier with a stroller or with a grandparent who tires quickly. Bergen is also wet through the year, so the plan keeps indoor options ready for afternoons. Parents browsing Norway tour packages will find this the least tiring format for a three-generation group.

When is the best time to visit Norway from India?
June to August is the best time for a family trip. Days are very long, temperatures run roughly 10 to 25 C and the fjord and hiking season is fully open. This is also peak pricing, so book early.
May and September are shoulder months with fewer crowds and lower prices, though some mountain roads may still be closed in May. October is cooler and wetter, with Oslo at about 4 to 9 C and around 80 mm of rain. Winter is cold, dark and snowy, and northern lights viewing happens in the far north, not on the Oslo and Bergen route. As of 2026, summer remains the simplest choice with children.
What does a Norway trip cost from India?
This package costs Rs.80,500 per person on twin sharing, land only, with flights excluded. International airfare, visa fee and travel insurance are paid separately.
The final amount depends on room type, travel month, train class and any optional activities. Indicative tiers, per person, for context:
- Budget 3-star: approx Rs.60,500
- Standard 4-star (this package): Rs.80,500
- Premium 5-star: approx Rs.1,29,000
Summer dates cost more than May or September. Confirm exact rates for your dates at booking.
Kid and elder logistics on this route
Transfers on this trip are short, and the only long leg is the Oslo to Bergen train, about 6.5 to 7 hours. Train travel is described by Norway's tourism board as comfortable for families, and stroller space can usually be reserved.
- Seats: request seats together and near the carriage door or toilets when booking the train.
- Rooms: family or connecting rooms are subject to hotel availability; confirm at booking.
- Stroller and wheelchair: central Oslo and the Bergen wharf walk are largely flat. The funicular and some older streets involve slopes or steps, so tell us if anyone uses a wheelchair.
- Snack and rest stops: pack water and light snacks for the train, and plan a sit-down break every 90 minutes of sightseeing.
Why this works for families
This route works because it limits hotel changes and travel hours while keeping every day light. Children get hands-on museums and a funicular ride, and grandparents get benches, short walks and early dinners.
Children often travel free or at a discount on Norwegian public transport, and many museums offer reduced child entry. Some long-distance trains have family carriages with play areas. Fixed dinner times around 6.30pm also keep young children from getting overtired.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets something of its own on this trip, so nobody is only tagging along.
Younger children
- Hands-on science or culture museum in Oslo
- Funicular ride up Mount Fløyen in Bergen
- Boat ride on the fjord, weather permitting
- Playground and park time on the free afternoons
Teenagers
- Oslo harbourfront and Fjord promenade walk
- Scenic train ride across the mountains to Bergen
- Optional kayaking or canoeing, booked on the free day in Bergen
- Fish market and wharf exploring
Grandparents
- Guided Bryggen wharf walk on flat paths
- Fjord views from a boat, seated and sheltered
- Unhurried city orientation tours with photo stops
- Rest windows at the hotel after lunch
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
Days start around 9am, with sightseeing capped at about four hours before a midday rest. Dinner is early, usually by 6.30pm, and the family is back at the hotel by 8pm on most days.
The longest sitting stretch is the Oslo to Bergen train. The fjord day trip is the other full day, and it is followed by an easy evening. Nap or rest windows are built in after lunch, and the free afternoons in Oslo and Bergen can be used for shopping, a playground or sleep. If rain sets in at Bergen, swap outdoor stops for museum or indoor time.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Hotels are standard 3-4 star city properties, with breakfast included and other meals as per the itinerary. Room sizes in Norway are often compact, so families of four may need two rooms or a family room, subject to availability.
Vegetarian dishes are generally easy to find in Oslo and Bergen at international and Indian restaurants. Norwegian sources mention local and organic food but do not confirm vegetarian options at every restaurant, and Jain food needs advance planning. We can help you pre-plan meals or carry dry snacks for the train.
Travelling with kids and elders: five practical tips
- Waterproofs: carry rain jackets and non-slip shoes, as Bergen sees rain through the year.
- Layers: summer temperatures vary widely, so pack light layers rather than one heavy coat.
- Documents: keep passports, visas and printed copies handy for every family member, including children.
- Train planning: check schedules on Entur, Norway's official travel planner, and reserve seats early.
- Medicines: carry regular prescriptions with a doctor's note, plus a basic first-aid kit for children and elders.
Where you stay in Oslo and Bergen
You stay in standard 3-4 star city hotels, 3 nights in central Oslo and 4 nights in central Bergen, so every sightseeing stop is close by.
- Budget 3-star (approx Rs.60,500): simple rooms, a little further from the centre, breakfast included.
- Standard 3-4 star (Rs.80,500, this package): central location, lift access in most properties, breakfast included.
- Premium 5-star (approx Rs.1,29,000): larger rooms, better views and on-site dining.
Hotel names are confirmed after booking, based on your travel dates.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Norway
Indian passport holders need a Schengen visa to enter Norway. Apply through the official Norwegian visa application route and check the current fee on the official portal, as it changes. Our Norway visa for Indians guide lists documents and steps.
The currency is the Norwegian krone. Cards are widely accepted, but do not rely on a quoted exchange rate before you travel. Direct and one-stop flights run from major Indian cities to Oslo, usually around 8 to 12 hours depending on routing and layovers. Confirm fares and airlines at booking.

FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
