Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Malaysia family holiday cover?
This Malaysia holiday covers three bases: Kuala Lumpur for arrival and city time, Genting Highlands for cool-weather park days, and Legoland Johor for one full theme park day. Each stop is chosen for children and grandparents travelling together.
Genting Highlands is a hill resort area in Pahang, roughly an hour's drive from Kuala Lumpur, with a cable car, indoor and outdoor attractions and easy walking around the resort. Legoland Johor, close to the Malaysia-Singapore border, is built around younger children and has a water park next door. Kuala Lumpur adds a half-day of city sights and a market evening.
There is a free afternoon on Day 2 and a slower stretch around the hotel change on Day 5, so nobody runs on empty. The longest drive, Genting to Johor, is broken with a rest stop.
Why does this route suit Indian families?
This route suits Indian families because the flight is short, vegetarian food is easy to find and the daily pace is slow. Reported non-stop flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi take about 4.25 hours, within a 3.5 to 5-hour range depending on the departure city, as of September 2026.
For grandparents, that is far easier than an eight-hour sector. On arrival, the KLIA Ekspres train links the airport with KL Sentral in about 28 minutes, though your pre-booked transfer takes you straight to the hotel.
Hotels on this route can arrange vegetarian, Jain and no-onion-no-garlic meals if you tell us at booking. Children get familiar food at breakfast, and the Genting and Legoland food courts have simple vegetarian options.
Best time to visit Malaysia from India
The best time to visit Malaysia from India for this route is June to August, which falls in the southwest monsoon period. Average monthly rain is about 120 mm in June, 117 mm in July and 148 mm in August, against 280 mm in November.
Temperatures stay between 23 and 33 C all year. Heavy northeast monsoon rain from November to March mainly hits the east coast, western Sarawak and eastern Sabah, so this west-side route is affected less. April and May are the hottest months by average temperature, so start park days at opening time if you travel then. October and November bring more afternoon rain; carry ponchos.
How much does this Malaysia trip cost?
The Malaysia trip cost for this package starts at Rs.27,500 per person, land only, on twin sharing. Flights are not included. The table shows how the stay tier changes the indicative per-person price.
| Stay tier | Indicative price per person (land only, twin sharing) | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.20,500 | Simpler rooms, fewer on-site facilities |
| Standard 3-4 star (this package) | Rs.27,500 | Family room options, daily breakfast |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.44,000 | Larger rooms, more on-site dining |
Peak-season dates, school-holiday weekends and extra beds can move the final figure, so confirm at booking. For other routes and add-ons, see our Malaysia tour packages.
What is included and not included?
The listed price covers land arrangements only: six nights in standard 3 to 4-star hotels, daily breakfast, road transfers and the Genting and Legoland sightseeing in the plan. International flights, visa charges, most lunches and dinners, and personal spending are extra.
The full lists are in the inclusions and exclusions sections of this page. Anything we cannot confirm in advance, such as room category upgrades or specific ride packages, is marked to be confirmed at booking.
Seats, rooms and ground logistics for kids and elders
Kids and elders travel in one air-conditioned vehicle with seats allocated so grandparents sit near the door and children near parents. Every transfer is private to your group, so stops can follow your family's needs.
- Seating: Tell us at booking if a child needs a booster seat or an elder needs a front seat; we confirm it with the vehicle partner.
- Strollers: They work in Kuala Lumpur malls, Genting resort walkways and Legoland paths. The Genting cable car needs the stroller folded.
- Wheelchairs: The major attractions have ramps or lifts. Access to individual rides varies, so confirm at booking.
- Rest stops: The Genting to Johor drive of roughly four hours includes one highway rest stop for toilets, snacks and a stretch.
Why this plan works for families
This plan works for families because every long activity has a rest window and every drive is short enough for a child to sit through. The one long leg, Genting to Johor, is the only day with a travel-heavy morning.
- Kuala Lumpur to Genting is about an hour, so Day 3 starts late and ends early.
- The same Genting hotel serves two nights, so luggage stays unpacked for a day.
- Theme park days are placed in the middle, after one easy city day to beat jet lag.
- Dinners are early, around 7 to 8 pm, which suits younger children and elders.
Highlights by age group
Each age group gets its own highlights, with shared activities such as the cable car so the family stays together.
Younger children (4 to 9)
- Legoland Miniland and gentle rides built for small children
- The water park next to Legoland, as an option on Day 6
- Genting cable car and indoor play zones
- Light and sound area at the Genting resort in the evening
Teenagers (10 to 17)
- Genting outdoor theme park rides
- Legoland driving school and faster rides
- Kuala Lumpur malls and night market on Day 2
- KL Tower viewing deck photo stop
Grandparents
- Cool Genting weather, which is easier than Kuala Lumpur heat
- Short, flat walks around the resort and Merdeka Square area
- Seated rest time at hotel while children use park rides
- Indian lunch options in Kuala Lumpur on Day 2
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
The daily rhythm is a start around 8:30 am, lunch and rest in the middle, and dinner by 8 pm. Most days include a rest window of one to two hours at the hotel.
Genting is cooler than Kuala Lumpur at altitude, so a light jacket helps in the evening. Slopes and steps near the cable car and outdoor park need steady footing, so plan the day around the slowest walker. On the Day 5 drive, keep water, fruit and a few familiar snacks within reach.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Standard 3 to 4-star hotels on this route offer family rooms with extra beds, and many properties have connecting rooms. A room with two beds plus a sofa bed suits two children; three adults usually need a triple room. Room categories and bed types are confirmed at booking.
Breakfast is included daily and normally covers Indian and continental options. Vegetarian, Jain and child-friendly meals can be arranged at hotels and found at Genting and Legoland food courts. On the Johor drive, carry a few packed snacks, since the rest stop may offer limited vegetarian choices.
Five tips for travelling with kids and elders
These five tips cover health, weather, documents and park rules for families on this route.
- Carry a light rain jacket for everyone. Rain showers are short but frequent, and parks stay open in rain.
- Keep passports and arrival details on one phone and one paper copy. Every child needs their own passport.
- Pack sunscreen, hats and refillable bottles. Humidity is high all year, and April and May are the hottest months.
- Carry regular medicines with prescriptions, and note the nearest clinic or pharmacy at each hotel on arrival.
- Check ride height and age rules at Genting and Legoland before promising any ride to a child.
Stay options in Kuala Lumpur, Genting and Johor
This trip uses three stay bases: a city hotel in Kuala Lumpur, a hotel in the Genting Highlands resort area and a hotel near Legoland Johor. We do not name properties until they are confirmed at booking.
- Budget 3-star (approx Rs.20,500 per person, indicative): Clean, simple rooms with breakfast, fewer on-site facilities and sometimes a short walk to food.
- Standard 3-4 star (Rs.27,500 per person, this package): Family room options, daily breakfast, lifts and in-house dining or a food court nearby.
- Premium 5-star (approx Rs.44,000 per person, indicative): Larger rooms, more dining choices and extra comforts such as pools and kids' areas.
Kuala Lumpur is the city base for couples, families and budget travellers, which is why Day 1 and Day 7 stay there. Genting gives cool weather and resort attractions, and the Johor stay keeps the Legoland day short on travel.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Malaysia
Indian passport holders need to check Malaysia's entry rules before booking, because requirements and fees can change. Read our Malaysia visa for Indians guide, then confirm the current fee and process on the official Malaysian government portal. Every family member needs a passport with enough validity, children included.
The local currency is the Malaysian ringgit (RM). Exchange rates move daily, so check a live rate and carry a mix of cash and a forex or international card. Non-stop flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi to Kuala Lumpur International Airport are reported at about 4.25 hours, within a 3.5 to 5-hour range. Fares vary by date, so check at booking.
