The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 8-night journey through Kazakhstan— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What makes this Kazakhstan honeymoon itinerary different?
This trip is built for two people travelling privately, with a driver-guide on the mountain days and long gaps between sightseeing. The middle of the route stays close to Kolsai Lakes and Kaindy Lake, where days are made of short walks, picnic lunches and quiet terrace evenings.
Almaty is the start and end point. The lakes lie in the Almaty Region, and the southeastern nature circuit that includes Kolsai and Kaindy also takes in Charyn Canyon, so the canyon fits in on the drive without a separate detour. Most of the Kazakhstan holiday is spent outdoors, at an easy pace.
Where does this Kazakhstan honeymoon tour package take you?
The route covers six places, each with a clear purpose: one city base, one mountain resort area, one canyon, two lakes and a rail journey. The table below shows what each stop adds for a couple.
| Place | What you do there | Why it suits a couple |
|---|---|---|
| Almaty | Panfilov Park, Zenkov Cathedral, Green Bazaar, Kok-Tobe viewpoint | Easy first and last days with cafes and short taxi rides |
| Medeu and Shymbulak | Cable car, short mountain walks, a cafe lunch | Cool mountain air a short drive from the city |
| Charyn Canyon | Red rock walls and the Valley of Castles walk | A wide-open stop that breaks the long drive east |
| Kolsai Lakes | Walk to the first lake, picnic, optional second-lake trail | A gentle trail with long quiet stretches |
| Kaindy Lake | Sunken spruce trunks standing in the water, reached by a rough track | One of the most photographed spots in the region |
| Talgo train leg | Reserved long-distance rail sector | A change from road driving, with room to sit and talk |
When is the best time to visit Kazakhstan from India?
The best time to visit Kazakhstan from India for this route is June to September, when lake roads are open and days are warm. June runs about 16 to 28 C, while July and August can touch 35 to 40 C in the steppe and the south.
Late May and September are cooler and quieter, with medium crowds and medium prices. October turns crisp at 5 to 17 C, and nights near the lakes get cold. Winter is long and snowy, with temperatures down to about -17 C, so this itinerary does not suit December to March. April is the wettest month in Almaty.
July and August are also peak price months, and lakeside guesthouses are limited in number. Book early if your dates fall in those two months.
What does a Kazakhstan trip cost for two?
This Kazakhstan trip costs Rs.78,000 per person on twin sharing, land only, so for a couple the total is twice that figure before flights. As of 2026, the price covers stays, transfers, a driver-guide on the mountain days and the listed entries.
Four things move the final figure: travel dates, hotel class, add-ons and flights from India. Peak summer pricing, an upgraded city hotel, a private dinner or a photographer all add to it. A budget 3-star version of this route would cost less and a premium 5-star version would cost more, but confirm current prices with us, as both depend on dates and availability. We give a firm quote once dates and hotel class are fixed.
Moments to plan around
A few moments on this route are worth timing carefully, because the day you take them changes how they feel.
- Sunset over Almaty: Day 2, from the Kok-Tobe viewpoint, with the city lights coming on below.
- A quiet first lake: Day 5, on the walk to the first Kolsai Lake, before other visitors arrive.
- Kaindy at its stillest: Day 6, in the morning, when the water is calm and the spruce trunks reflect clearly.
- Private dinner for two: Day 8, with the setting confirmed at booking.
Why this route suits couples
This route suits couples because it keeps the days short, the settings quiet and the schedule flexible.
- Privacy: The Kolsai and Kaindy days are spent in a private car with a guide, not in a group coach, so you set the pace at each stop.
- Setting: Alpine lakes, spruce forest and red canyon walls give you open scenery without queues, and the lake trails are easy walks, not treks.
- Pace: Two nights in the lakes area and a free day near the end leave room for sleeping in and sitting still.
Romantic highlights of the trip
- Kok-Tobe at sunset: a cable car ride to the hilltop viewpoint, with Almaty spread out below.
- Shymbulak cable car: a ride up into the Tian Shan, then a slow coffee with the mountain view.
- Valley of Castles at Charyn Canyon: a walk between red rock formations, with long open sightlines.
- Picnic at the first Kolsai Lake: a packed lunch by the water, about 20 to 30 minutes from the car park.
- Kaindy Lake shoreline: sunken spruce trunks standing in cold, still water at the end of a rough mountain track.
- Private dinner for two: arranged on Day 8 in the city, with the venue confirmed at booking.
How the days flow
The pace is slow by design. Only two days, the Almaty-to-lakes drive and the train day, involve long travel, and everything else is built around short outings and long breaks.
Day 1 is a rest day after the flight. Days 2 and 3 are light sightseeing in and above Almaty, with a late start on Day 3 if you want it. Day 4 is the longest road day, with Charyn Canyon in the middle to break it up. Days 5 and 6 are lake days with free afternoons. Day 7 is a train transfer with the evening free. Day 8 is unscheduled apart from the private dinner, and Day 9 is departure.
Choosing the right stay style
For couples, the stay style matters more than the star rating: look at view, privacy and how close the room is to where you want to be.
In Almaty, central hotels near Arbat, Panfilov Park or Dostyk Avenue give you walkable streets and easy taxi access. The Medeu district suits couples who want mountain access, and Bostandyk is the upscale, modern option. Near the lakes, a mountain guesthouse in Saty village puts you minutes from the trailheads, though rooms are simpler than city hotels. This package uses standard 3-4 star hotels in the city and guesthouses in the lakes area.
Best months for a couple's trip
Early summer and early autumn are the best months for couples because the roads are open and the days are comfortable. Season changes this trip a great deal, so a short comparison helps.
| Month | Temperature range | What it means for this route |
|---|---|---|
| May | 12 to 23 C | Green and quiet, medium prices |
| June | 16 to 28 C | Warm and reliable for the lakes |
| July and August | 19 to 35-40 C | Hottest and busiest, peak prices |
| September | 12 to 24 C | Warm and dry, medium crowds |
| October | 5 to 17 C | Crisp, cold nights near the lakes |
Mountain weather can change quickly in any month, so pack layers even in July.
Add-ons worth considering
Three add-ons fit this route well, and each is confirmed at booking.
- Spa session in Almaty: best on Day 8, the free day, when there is no driving.
- Private dinner for two: already planned for Day 8; a second one can be added on Day 2 after Kok-Tobe.
- Photographer: a short shoot at Charyn Canyon on Day 4 or at the first Kolsai Lake on Day 5, when light is softer.
Where you stay: Almaty and the Kolsai lakes area
You stay in two kinds of places: central Almaty hotels and a mountain guesthouse near the lakes. Almaty is a mid-price base with mountain access, food and nightlife, which suits couples. The lakes area is simpler but much quieter.
- Budget 3-star (indicative, confirm current prices): basic rooms, shorter walks to the lake trailheads, fewer extras, and a lower price than this package.
- Standard 3-4 star (Rs.78,000 per person, this package): comfortable city hotels and a mountain guesthouse in Saty, with breakfast included.
- Premium 5-star (indicative, confirm current prices): larger rooms and upscale hotels in Medeu or Bostandyk, at a higher price, though the lakes area still has only simple stays.
We name no hotel brands here, as properties are confirmed at booking.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers to Kazakhstan
Indian passport holders should check the official Kazakhstan government e-visa portal for the current visa type, fee and processing time, as rules change. Do not rely on older figures. The passport should be valid for at least six months, and a couple whose passports carry different surnames should carry the marriage certificate.
The local currency is the Kazakhstani tenge, written as the symbol for tenge in prices. Check the exchange rate with your bank or forex dealer close to departure. A city bus or metro ride in Almaty is roughly 80 to 150 tenge, and a short taxi hop is about 800 to 2,000 tenge, as of September 2026. Carry some cash for village cafes near the lakes.
Flights from India to Almaty are not included in this package. Confirm duration and routing with us at booking.

HoneymoonHoneymooned in Kashmir for 7 nights in May. Gulmarg had light snow still and we got a gondola ride on Day 4. The tulip garden in Srinagar was in full bloom. Tripstor arranged a candlelit dinner on the houseboat which was a nice touch.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
CoupleNorway is expensive but the experience is worth planning for. We did the Flam Railway and the Sognefjord on Day 5. Tripstor gave us a realistic budget breakdown before we booked, which I appreciated. No surprises on the ground.
