Package overview
The thinking behind this journey.
A closer look at this 7-night journey through Indonesia— who it's built for, what you'll experience, and why the pace works.
Journey notes
Why this route works
What does this Jakarta, Bandung and Bogor trip cover?
This route links three bases on Java: Jakarta for arrival and departure, Bandung for the cooler highlands, and Bogor for gardens and animals. You change hotels only three times and take no domestic flights.
Jakarta gives you the old harbour area, a museum and family malls. Bandung brings the Lembang highlands, a crater viewpoint and a tea estate. Bogor adds a botanical garden and a wildlife park that younger children usually enjoy. The Jakarta to Bandung drive is roughly three hours on the toll road, as the trip is planned. Bogor is about two hours from Jakarta in normal traffic.
Kid and elder logistics on the road
Every road transfer is under four hours and uses an air-conditioned vehicle with one planned rest stop. The driver is briefed that the group has children and elders, so stops are timed around toilets, water and snacks rather than distance covered.
- Seating: grandparents take the front or the wider rear seat, children sit behind with booster or lap-belt arrangements to be confirmed at booking.
- Rooms: twin, double and family or connecting rooms depend on availability at each hotel. Request them when you book.
- Strollers and wheelchairs: ask for a folding stroller or wheelchair to fit in the boot. Access at parks, markets and older sites varies, so tell us about mobility needs early.
- Snacks and water: carry packaged snacks, fruit and bottled water for the longer drives. Mid-route stops usually have restaurants and clean toilets.
Why this route works for families
The loop keeps travel short, activities shared and meals predictable. There are no inter-island flights, no early-morning boat departures and no long hikes.
- Short transfers: no leg is longer than about three hours, so children do not spend whole days in a vehicle.
- Shared activities: gardens, a wildlife park and a tea estate suit a six-year-old and a seventy-year-old at the same time.
- Food: halal food is widely available on Java, and warungs serve simple dishes such as nasi goreng, mie goreng, satay and gado-gado that most children will eat.
- Rest built in: Day 5 is a free day in Bandung, and most evenings finish early.
Highlights by age group
Each group gets at least one activity that is clearly meant for them. Pick the ones that matter and skip the rest.
Younger children (about 4 to 10)
- Animal enclosures and safari-style drive at the Bogor wildlife park
- Open lawns and shaded paths at the botanical garden
- Family activity park stop in the Lembang area
- Hotel pool time on the free day
Teenagers
- Crater lake viewpoint and short boardwalk walk
- Factory outlet street shopping in Bandung
- Mall time in Jakarta, including food courts
- Using Gojek or Grab for short rides with a parent
Grandparents
- Slow walks in the botanical garden, with benches and shade
- Tea estate stop with a seated tea break
- Late starts on Days 5 and 8
- Cooler Bandung and Lembang weather compared with Jakarta
Pace, rest and daily rhythm
A normal day starts with breakfast at the hotel, one main activity before lunch, a long lunch, and a lighter second outing before an early dinner. Most days are planned to end by 7 or 8 pm.
- Rest windows: lunch breaks run 60 to 90 minutes, and Day 2 and Day 5 have free afternoons.
- Driving: Day 3 (Jakarta to Bandung) is the longest leg at roughly three hours. Day 6 and Day 7 are shorter, with lunch stops built in.
- Heat: Jakarta is warm and humid, so outdoor sightseeing is kept to mornings where possible. Bandung and Lembang are cooler.
- Flexibility: if a child is unwell or a grandparent is tired, the driver can shorten the day. Tell the guide early.
Rooms, meals and comfort
Standard 3-4 star hotels are the default, with air-conditioned rooms, breakfast included and a pool at most properties. The category is the same across Jakarta, Bandung and Bogor.
- Rooms: twin and double rooms are standard. Family or connecting rooms, extra beds and cots are subject to availability and may carry a supplement. Confirm at booking.
- Vegetarian food: vegetarian and vegan options are growing in tourist areas. Jain food is not widely available, so carry dry snacks and tell the hotel in advance.
- Child-friendly food: plain fried rice, noodles, satay without sauce, fruit and bread are easy to find. Communicate dietary needs clearly when ordering.
- Halal: halal food is widely available on Java.
Travelling with kids and elders: five tips
A few small preparations make this trip easier. These are specific to Java in particular.
- Carry rain gear all year. Showers can be short and heavy even in the drier months. A light rain jacket per person is enough.
- Keep passports and child ID handy. Carry passport copies and printed hotel bookings. Children need their own valid passport.
- Avoid floodwater. Health authorities discourage wading or swimming in floodwater, which may be contaminated. Skip puddles and flooded lanes in the wet months.
- Pack basic medicines. Take regular prescriptions, oral rehydration salts, fever syrup, motion-sickness tablets and sunscreen from India.
- Use ride apps carefully. Gojek and Grab show the fare before you ride. A short motorbike ride is not advised for young children or elders.
Where you will sleep in Jakarta, Bandung and Bogor
This trip uses standard 3-4 star hotels in each city: central Jakarta for arrival, Bandung city for the hill days, a Bogor hotel for the garden and wildlife park, and a Jakarta hotel near the airport on the last night. No hotel brands are named because properties are confirmed at booking.
| Stay category | Indicative price per person | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.25,500 | Clean rooms, breakfast, basic facilities, smaller rooms |
| Standard 3-4 star (default) | Rs.34,000 | Air-conditioned rooms, breakfast, pool at most properties |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.54,500 | Larger rooms, more dining options, better family facilities |
These tiers are indicative and derived from the listed land-only price. Final cost depends on dates, room type and group size.
Entry, money and flights for Indian travellers in 2026
Indian passport holders need a valid passport and a visa or entry permission for Indonesia. Check the official government portal for the current fee, and read our Indonesia visa for Indians guide before booking. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Carry some cash for warungs and parking, and check the exchange rate on the day you travel.

Cost and best season at a glance
The land-only price is Rs.34,000 per person on twin sharing, as of 2026. Flights, visa charges, insurance and personal spending are extra. April to October is the dry season on Java, with July to September the busiest and most expensive.
| Month group | Rain | Crowds and prices |
|---|---|---|
| January to March | Heavy to moderate | Low to medium |
| April to June | Moderate to low | Medium to peak |
| July to September | Low | High, peak prices |
| October to December | Moderate to heavy | Medium to high |
School-holiday dates usually decide the choice. Book early if you travel in June or December.

FriendsThree friends and I did a 9-night Australia package with stops in Melbourne and Sydney. We spent an afternoon at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and caught a local match. Tripstor sorted our group visa applications together which saved a lot of back and forth. Good experience overall.
FamilyBooked a family package for 7 nights covering Port Blair, Havelock, and Neil. The Cellular Jail light and sound show on Day 1 set a good tone for the trip. Kids were engaged throughout and the itinerary was not too rushed.
FamilyTravelled with my parents who are in their late 50s. Tripstor recommended two full acclimatization days in Leh before any high-altitude drives and that made a real difference. Tso Moriri was quieter than Pangong and honestly more worth the drive.
