Journey notes
Why this route works
What is a Georgia honeymoon package, and what does this one cover?
A Georgia honeymoon package is a ready-planned couples' itinerary with hotels, a private car, a few set experiences and free time. This one keeps to two bases, Tbilisi and the Kazbegi area, so you unpack only twice and spend the rest of the days together.
Most Georgia circuits that add Kakheti, Kazbegi and Batumi need about seven to ten days. Here the five nights are split between Tbilisi's old town and the Georgian Military Highway north to Stepantsminda, with Gergeti Trinity Church above the town as the signature stop. A wine stop in the Kakheti direction can be added on request.
The route at a glance
The five nights are split three in Tbilisi and two in the Kazbegi area, with one long drive each way. The table below shows where each night falls and what the main activity is.
| Night | Base | Main activity |
|---|---|---|
| Night 1 | Tbilisi | Arrival and a short old town walk |
| Night 2 | Tbilisi | Old town, Narikala cable car, sulphur bath district |
| Night 3 | Tbilisi | Mtskheta half day, free evening |
| Night 4 | Kazbegi area | Drive via Gudauri to Stepantsminda |
| Night 5 | Kazbegi area | Gergeti Trinity Church and a slow mountain day |
Day 6 is the drive back to Tbilisi and the airport transfer, so there is no sixth night.
Where do you stay on a Georgia honeymoon?
Stay in Tbilisi for the first three nights and the Kazbegi area for the last two. Tbilisi gives you the old town, baths and restaurants within a short ride. Stepantsminda gives you mountain views and quiet evenings, which is why couples tend to remember that leg most.
Hotels are standard 3-4 star, chosen for location and quiet rather than size. Mountain properties sit at a higher price level than city ones, so the two Kazbegi nights shape a fair part of the cost. If you travel in winter and want ski access, Gudauri on the Military Highway is the alternative base.
Moments to plan around
Four moments on this route are worth timing on purpose, because the day you do them changes how they feel.
- First evening in the old town (Day 1): a short walk near Freedom Square after dark, before the jet lag sets in properly.
- Narikala at dusk (Day 2): ride the cable car up for the evening light over the river and the old town roofs.
- Private bath room for two (Day 2 afternoon): the sulphur bath district offers private rooms, best booked a day ahead.
- Gergeti Trinity Church in the morning (Day 5): go early in a local 4x4, before the day-trippers arrive.
A fifth, optional moment is a private dinner on Day 3, the free evening in Tbilisi, either at the hotel or a restaurant you pick.
Why this route suits couples
This route suits couples because it limits the number of hotel changes, uses a private car for the long drive and leaves several evenings unscheduled. Three reasons stand out.
- Privacy on the road: the Tbilisi to Kazbegi drive is in your own car with a driver, so you can stop at Gudauri or the Friendship Monument for as long as you like.
- A contrast in settings: old stone lanes and cafes in Tbilisi, then open ridges and church views around Stepantsminda.
- An easy pace: the longest drive is about three hours, and no day carries more than two fixed activities.
Romantic highlights on this route
Six named experiences carry the romance of this trip, each with one concrete detail.
- Old town walk, Tbilisi: the lanes near Freedom Square are quiet after dinner and easy to cover on foot.
- Narikala cable car: a short ride up for the evening view over the river and the Mother of Georgia statue.
- Sulphur bath district: a private bath room for two can be booked here, if you want it.
- Mtskheta: the old capital, about 30 minutes from Tbilisi, with Jvari and Svetitskhoveli to visit.
- Gudauri viewpoint: a stop on the Georgian Military Highway with mountain views and the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument nearby.
- Gergeti Trinity Church: a stone church on the ridge above Stepantsminda, reached by a roughly 20-minute 4x4 ride.
How the days flow
Days are built with late starts, one main activity and an open evening. Breakfast is at the hotel, and nothing on Days 1 to 3 or Day 5 asks you to leave before mid-morning.
Day 4 is the longest on the road, about three hours to Gudauri and a little more to Stepantsminda, with stops built in so it does not feel like a transfer. Day 5 is deliberately light: church in the morning, then a walk, a spa session or rest. Day 6 is the return drive of about three to three and a half hours, so a late afternoon or evening flight home works best.
Choosing the right stay style
Pick rooms for the view, the privacy and how close you are to where you will walk in the evening. In Tbilisi, a hotel within easy reach of the old town saves taxi rides. In Kazbegi, a room facing the mountains matters more than room size.
- View: ask for a mountain-facing room at the Kazbegi stay, and a quieter courtyard-side room in Tbilisi if the street is busy.
- Privacy: smaller hotels and guesthouse-style properties give more quiet than large ones.
- Access: in Stepantsminda, a short walk to the town centre helps on the free evening.
Specific properties are confirmed at booking based on your dates, so we do not name them on this page.
Best months for a couple's trip to Georgia
May, June and September are the easiest months for this route. Tbilisi runs 15 to 27 C, rain is moderate, and the mountain road is clear. Crowds and prices sit at a medium level.
| Months | Tbilisi temperature | What it means for this trip |
|---|---|---|
| December to February | -10 to 10 C | Snow in the mountains, ski activity near Gudauri, low prices, cold mornings, possible road closures |
| March to April | 3 to 20 C | Mild but changeable, spring rain, low crowds and prices |
| May to June | 15 to 27 C | Comfortable for both bases, medium crowds and prices |
| July to August | 20 to 35 C | Hot lowlands, peak crowds and peak prices |
| September to October | 10 to 27 C | Comfortable early autumn, then cooler and quieter |
| November | 4 to 15 C | Cooler, moderate rain, low crowds and prices |
Georgia has no distinct monsoon season, but snow can close mountain roads, so winter dates need a flexible Kazbegi day.
Add-ons worth considering
Four add-ons fit this route, and each has a natural day.
- Private bath room in the sulphur district: best on Day 2 afternoon, after the old town walk.
- Private dinner setup: best on Day 3, the free evening, at the hotel or a restaurant of your choice.
- Photographer: best at Gergeti Trinity Church on Day 5 morning, when the light is soft and the ridge is quiet.
- Kakheti wine stop: Kakheti is Georgia's wine region, and a vineyard visit can be added if you want a longer day out of Tbilisi.
Pricing for each add-on depends on dates and availability, so confirm at booking.
What does the Georgia trip cost for two?
The listed price is Rs.35,500 per person, land only, on twin sharing, so a couple pays twice that figure for the land package before flights and visa. Flights, visa charges and personal spending sit outside it.
Three things move the number: hotel tier, whether you keep private transfers throughout or only on the Kazbegi leg, and how many meals you take beyond breakfast. As a guide, a budget 3-star version is approximately Rs.26,500 per person, the standard 4-star version is Rs.35,500, and a premium 5-star version is approximately Rs.57,000. Treat the 3-star and 5-star figures as indicative, and confirm current prices for your dates.
Which hotel tier fits which budget?
The standard tier is the default for this page, with budget and premium tiers available on request. All three use the same route and the same private-car drive.
| Stay tier | Indicative price per person | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Budget 3-star | Approx Rs.26,500 | Simpler rooms, fewer on-site facilities |
| Standard 3-4 star | Rs.35,500 (this package) | Central locations, mountain-facing rooms where available |
| Premium 5-star | Approx Rs.57,000 | Larger rooms, more on-site facilities, better views |
Getting around in Tbilisi and to Kazbegi
In Tbilisi you can use the metro, buses and Bolt rides, and the Kazbegi leg is by private car. Bus 337 connects Tbilisi airport and the city centre around the clock, and a Metromoney card from any metro station keeps local rides cheap.
Shared marshrutkas are the main intercity option in Georgia, but they are described as cheap and uncomfortable, so they do not suit a honeymoon schedule. A private driver is the usual choice for the Kazbegi and Mtskheta routes. If you later want the coast or the wine regions as separate trips, our Georgia tour packages cover them.
Food on this route
Georgian food is cheese-heavy, so ask whether a dish contains meat if you are vegetarian. Khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), lobiani (bean-filled bread), badrijani (eggplant rolls with walnut paste) and pkhali (spinach-and-walnut spread) are all easy to find in Tbilisi. Khinkali is the other dish most visitors try.
Visa, money and flights for Indian travellers to Georgia
Indian passport holders should confirm the current Georgia entry rules before booking, and our Georgia visa for Indians guide explains the route. Apply only through the official government portal, and check the official portal for the current fee, as it is not quoted on this page.
The local currency is the Georgian lari (GEL). We do not quote an exchange rate here, since it moves daily. Flights to Tbilisi (TBS) operate from major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai, and flight time varies by routing and any stopover, so confirm the duration when you book. Carry some cash for small stops on the mountain road, since card use is common in the city but not everywhere in Kazbegi.
Send us your dates and a few preferences and we will turn this outline into a quote built around you.
